I've not heard any chants or seen any crowd's other than at organised Corbyn rallies. In essence Corbyn is only preaching to the already converted fan boys. Corbyn and Labour lost the general election, they got fewer overall votes than the Tories, they got a lower vote share than the Tories and they got fewer seats than the tories, Corbyn only gained 4 more seats than Gordon Brown got in 2010, it's not much to show for 7 years in opposition.

I think the op may have been referring to Glastonbury this afternoon where the crowd were chanting his name.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

It's 'a thing' and, as such, will pass.

He has done better than his own party thought he would do and much better than most of the country two months ago.

Labour didn't win the election but current polls have him scoring higher on leadership than May.

For everyone who will tell others to "get over it, the Conservatives won" it must be annoying to hear Corbyn discussed in positive terms and be seen as a contender.

Some of the seats won were by the slightest of margins (45 votes in Richmond) and lost by similarly slight margins (K&C 20 votes). Every vote really does count now so Labour will push out the person that people want to chant about.

As long as you don't let the politicians and the top ten percent shake the money tree for themselves, then everyone will be able to have their fair share. There is plenty to go around .... just like those luxury flats in Kensington, why should one section of society benefit so much whilst others are suffering so badly?

The Tories will be in power for the next 5 years by which point the Tories will have swapped May for a more electable leader and Corbyn will have cocked up by calling some other reprehensible group "friends"

Notting really a drama. As I said, 5 more years of tory rule

But it's also clear that by using the word reich rather than right you were implying a similarity to the Nazi's. Which I was pointing out was ironic since you were trying to shut down any other ideas to your own.

You mean like the 'Day of Rage' protest that Corbyn and McDonnell called for thousands to turn up to in the week. In the real event only 400 hard left idiots decided to turn up and chanted "Oh Jeremy Corbyn" as they marched from Shepherds Bush to Parliament square and were outnumbered by Police on the day, lol.

Corbyn is the only party leader who gives a shit about servicemen.

He gets enormous respect from British forces around the world for actually caring about them as people, rather than paying lip service to them for the newspapers while regarding them as canon fodder.

One of the many reasons why he's going to be our next prime minister - and he will be the first in decades genuinely worthy of respect in the role.

That was a nickname that was first penned for you on here during the 2015 general election campaign as I recall. You kept saying Ed Miliband would win with ease, everyone could see how utterly deluded you were and that Miliband never stood a chance. Miliband proceeded to get whooped and took a spanking from the electorate as predicted and Cameron got a majority in 2015.

Yes it is a great thought give more to teachers schools nhs benefits. Have more and more immigration.

This is an island there is only so much room. Soon all the green spaces will be gone.

Everytime the conservatives start to sort out the economy that labour has left in tatters back it swings. Labour over spends borrowing more looks great to the people but then who is actually paying for it all ? All that glitters has to be paid for. The books have to balance.

"Ah, apologies to you Centaur, I'm being mean there...spelling mistakes and all!

I really do understand where you coming from. You are starting to realise Brexit may not happen and it will fuck the UK f it does, you know that Corbyn is going to be our next PM, it's no wonder you're in a spin. I don't mean to laugh, I'm sorry! "

The joke is on you, Corbyn is a Brexiteer and always has been going back to the 70's. Look at how he campaigned during the EU referendum compared to how he campaigned in the general election, there is a massive difference, his heart was clearly never in campaigning for Remain. It was reported in the days after the referendum he was over heard in a conversation in a cafe that he said he had voted Leave. He put a 3 line whip in to trigger article 50 during the vote on it in Parliament and he put Brexit in the Labour manifesto. We would still be leaving the EU even if Corbyn had won the general election, lol.

"Corbyn is the only party leader who gives a shit about servicemen.

He gets enormous respect from British forces around the world for actually caring about them as people, rather than paying lip service to them for the newspapers while regarding them as canon fodder.

One of the many reasons why he's going to be our next prime minister - and he will be the first in decades genuinely worthy of respect in the role."

Theresa May attended the official Armed Forces Day parade in Liverpool yesterday.

Jeremy Corbyn spent the day at Glastonbury, enjoying his cult personality.

And yes, I did say cult!

Everytime the conservatives start to sort out the economy that labour has left in tatters back it swings. Labour over spends borrowing more looks great to the people but then who is actually paying for it all ? All that glitters has to be paid for. The books have to balance.

What planet do you have to be on to think the Tories can sort out the economy? I bet you don't even realise that George Osborne flatlined the economic recovery Labour had expertly engineered when he took the reigns in 2010?

Are you sure you weren't at Glastonbury yesterday yourself? Your perceptions seem a little off!

Corbyn, unlike May, doesn't need to make empty gestures. The forces know he supports them, as they support him. It's not for nothing that May was booed at the Liverpool parade.

I really hope you aren't suggesting that our armed forces deserve more than equal respect with the members of the public from every walk of life who attended Glastonbury. That would be very strange!

Jeremy Corbyn actually turned down an invitation to attend an Armed Forces event in nearby Burnham On Sea.

One thing that you have got right there Centaur is that you realise we'd still be leaving the EU if Labour has won the election...but predictably you fail to realise this means I'm glad they didn't.

Things are working out beautifully with Brexit. Unfortunately we have to go through with it in some shape or form. The Tories mortal wounding at the polls means they have no mandate for the course the headbangers were set to put us on, and serves to emphasise their uselessness every time they capitulate to EU instruction during every stage of negotiation to come.

The Tories are a gift to Labour now. They will limp on for at very best a year, during which time they will be so useless even people like you will be screaming for someone else to take the reigns of the negotiations.

Labour will win the next election allowing them to take over the process, and construct a deal that retains the best elements of membership giving us the softest Brexit imaginable, all under the guise of 'what else can we do? The Tories have fucked it beyond repair'.

It's truly beautiful to behold. I admire Corbyn for many things, but never did I expect him to be a tactical genius. And yet every move he has made, especially his three line whip over Brexit, has been a master stroke.

This is a wonderful time to be alive!

you know when the right are worried when the express basically criticise him for keep young people engaged in politics and going to glastonbury, so they find the convient "he didn't support the troops on armed forces day" line instead...

how long has armed forces day been going for anyway.....

and that also doesn't tell the full story as he was suppose to do glastonbury last time, but had to pull out....

but hey.... he managed to do something that people for decades had been trying to do... get the young out to vote....

the key now is.... can he keep them interested, and get the people behind them to vote as well!!!

then i would be inclinded to have the "lowering the voting age" conversation.....

I think the voting age should be lowered but don't posit Jeremy as a reason - that's enough to ensure it will never happen.

Reading the politics forum these last two days has really proved, to me, that a) people only believe their own news and b) it's fair game to criticize politicians for being populist and politicians if they're not yours. The hypocrisy is outstanding.

When Jezza gets round to being PM which will certainly happen after the next election I worry he will be a bit on the old side. He's no spring chicken.

I didn't like Corbyn at the start because of the platforms he shared. However he has sound policies and a dignified persona and quiet gravitas that has won me over.

The Conservatives are here for now though as well as Brexit which is the hand we are dealt.

All this name calling is sad on both sides. Labelling or insinuating someone as a Nazi or a left wing loony is a reflection of a lack of intelligence and inability to debate.

I'm more worried about outside interference, to be honest. He is the biggest threat to the establishment this country has seen in generations.

The real question is how many of the 'outraged' people knew it was Armed Forces Day until the Express told them they should be 'outraged' over Jeremy Corbyn 'snubbing' it.

The vast majority were most likely showing their 'respect' for our veterans by getting pissed in the pub or watching Corbyn on telly so they could get themselves into a lather about him.

He really does take care of himself. He's got a very firm body and grip. I was surprised.

I post this safe in the knowledge that I have also felt the bodies and grip of senior politicians from the other main parties. All fully dressed and in public, of course.

Armed Forces Day has been celebrated since 2009 (it was previously called veterans day), and is normally on the last Saturday in June (closest to the first date of the awarding of the first VC).

Official celebrations are centred on one city; this year it was Liverpool, last year it was Nottingham, and allows the Armed Forces to put on displays and meet and greets etc. It allows the public to show their appreciation of our Armed Forces, and our Armed Forces veterans.

Smaller events are undertaken in many other places.

Its entirely up to individuals if they agree or not with the concept.

You won't find anyone more patriotic or proud than me but I'm still willing to say what's wrong and what's right, however once you've bumped up the hubris whatever you say becomes treasonous and you can use simple words like dissenter, cowardice, pacifist to shut those voices down

Short memories people have,

Isn't this the same Corbyn who stood head bowed for a minutes silence to "honour" the IRA scum who were shot dead by then Army whilst on their way to carry out an attack against the Armed forces?

The same Corbyn who refused to bow his head to the Queen when she gave her speech in Parliament?

Yes, you are strange.

You seem to not be able to tell the difference between 'respect' and 'equal respect' for a start.

Well, that's the point. All the evidence for May and her government, and Cameron's government before, is there for all to see. They have failed to do what they said they would go by every metric you can apply. They have proven themselves to be economically incompetent for the last seven years, and they have put the lives of people in this country at risk for profit. Grenfell, London Bridge, Finsbury Park mosque, the Manchester attack..all are as a result of Tory policy.

Corbyn's shadow government propose the sound policies that would make our country safer and our economy stronger. There is literally only one test as to whether they will fulfill those promises, or not.

""I really hope you aren't suggesting that our armed forces deserve more than equal respect with the members of the public from every walk of life who attended Glastonbury. That would be very strange!"

Then I'm strange.

The Armed Forces (and those in the "Blue light" professions) deserve immense respect, many put themselves in danger on an almost daily basis.

Yes, you are strange.

You seem to not be able to tell the difference between 'respect' and 'equal respect' for a start.

Putting that aside though, if you can explain to me why a soldier deserves more respect than a teacher, or a fireman deserves more respect than a doctor, rather than equal respect, I'm all ears.

If you dont understand the difference between those that face bombs and bullets and face the fear that goes with that for weeks on end and a fireman etc that face danger once in a long while then you are the strange one"

I understand those things perfectly well. What's strange is that you think by observing this, you have made some sort of a relevant point.

Want to have another go at it?

Its easy for the party not in power to critise or say they would do something different but the fact is that they dont.

The people obviously do support May in general or she would have been voted out. 11 seats was all they were lacking by.

Corbyn's government have never been in power. Labour under Blair and Brown is closer to the Tories than a Corbyn government, so your point doesn't stand up.

The vote share at the election was 42% Conservative, 40% Labour. All the polls show that were the election run today, Kabour would be the largest party, not the Conservatives.

Corbyn also just beat Maybin the latest poll as to who the public would want as PM, so the idea that people 'generally support May' is fanciful at best.

It's more the case they are stuck with her against everyone's wishes, even that of her own party, until the next election (within 12 months).

By the way, there is no Tory who will currently challenge her for the role of PM, as none of them are quite stupid enough to want to shoulder the curse she has brought them.

Strong and stable, don't forget!

"Corbyn have a premier league audience that follow him wherever he goes, he is a modern day rocky balboa, a people champion "

This is a fact!

Corbyn should have quit, run away due to the pressure he was under. His own party were backstabbing him. Media and other well established entities had him down as a joke and written him off.

The arrogance of May and majority of the political elite thought Corbyn will get smashed in the elections.

Only a modern day people champion can survive a wave like that. Not only is he surviving he is thriving. Because he is doing what he does best...

That is being true to himself and trying to do his best. I used to think he is too polite to gain momentum and slow down ruthless politics, but my god he has a fighting spirit.

The eye of the tiger!

He is soo passionate and genuine even some of the opposition are standing aside because they don't want to get run over by the Corbyn train.

Full steam ahead! Choo choo!

If anyone deserves a chance to have power it is Corbyn. Let him tackle Europe to give us a fair opportunity.

June elections were the end of May... she is wounded.

Only a matter of time now!

"

The books will balance with everyone paying their fair dues. This nonsense about the non existent money tree is bandied about by those who are hiding it. They don't want to share it. There is enough money .... but those who had the eleven per cent pay raise and evade taxes want to take, take and take again

"so from unelectable to dangerous in the space of weeks .... the alt-reich sound nervous "

I, like nearly everyone including many Labour supporters, thought he was a useless leader and stood no chance of getting elected. Seems everyone was wrong about that. However, just because Corbyn looks like a more credible threat now doesn't make his £50 billon tax and spend policies any better or any less economically uncredible than they were before.

Citation needed, naturally! The policies are as costed as a prediction of the future is possible to be, they are credible, and no-one who has claimed otherwise has been able to demonstrate why they wouldn't be.

And I'm pretty certain you're not going to be foolish enough to suggest the IFS as a point of reference here!

Of course he is, that's why his initials are JC!

Don't forget though, there are many here who would rather worship at the alter of a fanatical death cult, and give blind devotion to a slowly withering sect who promise nothing more than the gradual destruction of British economy, society and values...otherwise known as the Conservative and Unionist Party!

He's not, but he's the sort of guy who takes very good care of himself. He'll be knocking around for years and years. Skinner will have nothing on Jez!

I'm more worried about outside interference, to be honest. He is the biggest threat to the establishment this country has seen in generations.

I have to say, Corbyn doesn't look like he is 68. Especially when you consider Trump is only 3 years older and look at the state of him.

"I am not Jesus, though I have the same initials..."

I do find it a little ironic that there is a certain personality cult has formed around him. Because that doesn't seem to be what he's about. He seems very keen on taking the focus away from individuals and onto policies. If the whole momentum is going to work, then it's gonna have to bring about more of a bottom up, grassroots democracy that can endure regardless of who is in charge.

Glastonbury Festival was founded in 1970 by CND supporter Michael Eavis. Throughout the 1980s the festival was closely linked with CND, helping to raise awareness of nuclear weapons and through donating money from ticket sales to CND. The event was even named the 'Glastonbury CND Festival' between 1981-1990. In 1981 the Pyramid Stage was rebuilt with the CND symbol taking pride of place at the top. Glastonbury Festival became the biggest source of funding for CND.

"Ive been twice in the 90s never paid for a ticket.Went over the fence once and paid a tenner for a UV stamp once.It was full of kids off their head just like me in the 90s.Never saw the metropolitan elite when i was there i doubt they could handle the loos after day 1. Also Glastonbury has always been political. To say otherwise is absurd.

West Bromwich Labour MP Tom Watson was filmed there last year. Footage was on the news at the time. It's reported in the press now channel 4 news reader Jon Snow was there this year chanting "fuck the tories" with the other drugged up loons. So much for channel 4 news impartiality.

It was printed in newspapers yesterday, a tweet that was posted by a Glastonbury attendee over the weekend showed him standing arm in arm with Jon Snow from channel 4 news, and the written text in the tweet described what they were chanting. The tweet that was posted on twitter over the weekend has now been deleted (is Jon Snow embarrassed about it or worried about his job and that's why it was deleted? ). I expect channel 4 will have an investigation into it.

Thank you for pointing this out.

I'm not a Tory but this guy is acting like he Won the election. He didn't. He LOST. BADLY. Just think how unpopular Gordon Brown was. And this guy barely did better than him.

He gained 29 seats against a projected 100 seat loss, turned a Tory majority into a hung parliament, caused the biggest swing to Labour since 1945 and recorded a vote share of 40.5% to the Tories' 42% off the back of a 24 point poll deficit caused by the largest orchestrated media campaign against a Labour leader in living memory.

He has turned Labour majorities into super majorities across the country, won 'impossible' Tory seats and turned former Tory safe seats into paper thin marginals up and down the UK.

Labour are now beating the Tories in the polls, and people would prefer him to be the PM instead of May.

The only way you could describe that as a bad loss is if you didn't have a clue what you were taking about.

Labour are in disarray again, the party was split yesterday on a vote on staying in the single market and the customs union, Corbyn sacked 3 of the Labour front bench for voting against his whip. It's clear now Corbyn wants out of the single market and the customs union. There is a thread about it here on the politics forum but the usually very vocal Labour supporters on here haven't posted on it and are being as quiet as a mouse on the topic. They seem to have lost their tongues. All is not well in the Labour party.

The same could have been said about Labour 6 months ago. It does not take much in Politics for a seismic shift sadly.

I will profit greatly if Labour come into power but I don't see it happening anytime soon?

Where will this knock out blow come from?

All parties are finding their feet after a tumultuous General Election.

Government will get under way now. It remains to be seen if factions start to appear in any of the parties but Brexit is bound to be as toxic as ever.

Haven't you learned anything, Centaur? It's only an issue if you read the front pages of the Express or the Daily Mail. This is great for Corbyn as it's allowed him to show the 'moderates' some advance muscle. At the polls it means nothing. Most people won't even bother commenting on it.

Still, I know you need dreams to cling to, so go ahead!

The irony is Jeremy Corbyn attending Glastonbury, a place where the Metropolitan Elite pay big money to make rich people even richer!

Couldn't agree with this more! Gastonbury is expensive, we didn't notice too many poor people, we spent a fortune and lots of people did well out of the attendees. Quite the middle class festival.

How would you have spotted 'poor people' at the festival, out of interest? Does Michael Eavis still make them wear an armband?

Would 'poor people' be able to afford to go?

A lot of people work/volunteer there in return for their tickets, so yeah most likely.

If you were in any way capable of an objective view on Corbyn, you'd see that what you've written in sarcasm at the end is the truth.

But you're not capable of objectivity. So your 'appraisal', such as it is, is meaningless.

I've not been to Glastonbury but I have been to plenty of other festivals. I've not said at all anywhere that it's full of the metropolitan liberal elite. But neither is it full of people who can't afford the 200 odd quid to go. Maybe it is in your alternate reality.

Whilst not agreeing with Jeremy et al on many policies I seldom actually attack him personally and I've not done so here. The post is directed at the almost religious like cult, especially amongst the young, that is forming around him. Whilst you may actually agree with his policies you should still be concerned at this 'cult of the personality' that seems to forming around him.

It's OK to love a leader who has no real power but a leader who holds real power, or aspires to do so, needs to be respected, not loved. Respect endures through disagreement whilst love rapidly turns to hate. Jeremy, having gained a certain amount of creditability and with it respect due to is unexpectedly 'good' performance in the General Election now has a choice before him. Being loved may make becoming a leader easier, being respected would make becoming a good leader possible.

Remember how much everyone once loved Tony Blair and how all that ended.

"Hail Jeremy, full of truth. The people are with you. Praised above all others art thou and glorious art the words that come from your mouth. Glorious Jeremy, father of the people, speak for us now, always and until our death. Amen.

No personality cult here and definitely nothing sycophantic either.

If you were in any way capable of an objective view on Corbyn, you'd see that what you've written in sarcasm at the end is the truth.

But you're not capable of objectivity. So your 'appraisal', such as it is, is meaningless.

"

There is no cult of Corbyn there is a cult of brexit cult.

Corbyn had been on the right side of history for over 30 years. He stood up against apartheid when the tories looked the other way.

Give me this kind of leader any day.

The cult of corbyn propaganda pushed by yourself the daily mail and other right wing media outlets has failed to persuade anyone. That shit dont stick.

I agree that there does seem to an almost cult like failure of common sense that seems to have taken over a large segment of the political right. It's as if someone had written on a barn wall "UK good, EU bad" but this thread is about Jeremy C, not BREXIT; and I have to say hearing loads of people singing "O Jeremy Corbyn" up and down the country looks and sounds far more like a 'cult of the personality' to me rather than rational political debate. Or am I missing something?

Its a movement rather than a cult.Is Macron in france a cult leader.

We live in age of the cult of celebrity where young people follow the likes of the Kardashians on social media. So it's refreshing that they get engaged with the ideas of an old guy from a different generation.Regarding chanting. It happens every saturday in every stadium across the land. Im a member of the cult of man utd and have chanted at the ground. Its tribal and human.
