THAT State Visit

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Apparently, Trump will only visit when he's guaranteed happy waving crowds welcoming him.

It may be some time.

At least it saves London the bill for the policing and the Met can get on with their work.

I read about this. I personally think he's a bit embarrassed about all that shit that went down with the Mayor of London, as well.

Anyway, it's all good with me. Saves me the money I would have spent traveling down to London to protest him .

I don't think the Aluminium Lady has the political capital for Trump visit. Too many MPs with reduced majorities would be worried about facing another election from an angered electoral base.

Trouble with those is he's more than likely to be choppered in and not see any of the demos.

On a state visit, he can't help miss them or the publicity that would surround it.

I think it will be a very long time, if ever, before he turns up for one.

so much for free speech then, like him or not dont the british have a reputation for allowing people to speak freely or is it the new political world that we will just shout down anyone we disagree with, no fan of him but I strongly believe in his right to come and speak here, to deny this is a very slippery slope

"It didn't make it into the Queen's Speech. "

Of course it is not in the Queens speech the date has not been fixed yet.

When the civil servants here and in the USA manage to line the diaries up the date will be announced.

It is exactly the same protocol as any other leaders visit has been.

No matter who the prime minister was he or she was duty bound to invite the President of the USA to visit the UK

But it's not just a 'visit' is it? It's a State Visit, an entirely different matter and she's not duty bound to extend one.

you do know that his coming or not has sweet fa to do with you, i or the man on the Clapham omnibus..

such things are above our pay scale and yes i agree as the President he should be afforded a visit though even if i didn't it would not matter as such things are pretty much set in stone..

and no one will deny him the right to free speech which you know full well, equally the people who for so many valid reasons object to him and some of his policies and past deeds have the same right to express their right to free speech and peaceful protest..

you really think Theresa not so strong and stable in any way shape or form would dent him a visit..

has there been another referendum on him coming..

answer is no is it not..

You must have missed the redefinition of free speech by the alt right.

The new definition is that left talking points are crying and whinging and the right talking points are to be heard without any counter points or dissention in appreciative silence or loud unwavering agreement.

Perhaps you need to go back to school and learn to read and understand what you read. I said I am no fan of him, BUT many thousands have died to protect free speech yet here we have people threatening him with rotten eggs etc. Like it or not he is the democratically elected leader of the the most powerful country in the world, if people were just going to line the streets that would be fine and I would always argue that is totally ok, but unruly mobs shouting and baying to try and stop either his visit or any speech he makes is not on IMVHO.

To those that want his visit stopped ask yourselves how many thousand innocent kids has trump killed via bombings etc and then do the same with obama, yet I didnt hear anyone protesting against him coming here

Umm... Sorry... but what?!

Let's just recap here, as you seem to be unable to read what you wrote yourself.

So you start with "so much for free speech then..." and then end with "I strongly believe in his right to come and speak here, to deny this is a very slippery slope".

As several people have pointed out on here (so it is just not my comprehension skills lacking) that not inviting him over here for a STATE VISIT has in NO way anything to do with denying him free speech.

He can come over here anytime he wants and say what he wants. People will gladly hear him. They will likely protest. The fact they CAN protest is EXACTLY what free speech is about. The fact that people can line the streets with placards and say what they mean and not be arrested or censored by the state is BECAUSE we have free speech.

No, I don't condone violence and I don't think lobbing eggs at him is a good move. And your bluster about killing kids and Obama is a great dodge of the issue, but most people here will see that is is a dodge, and see that you don't have any idea what free speech means.

But isn't peaceful demonstrations the perfect example of free speech... no one is advocating violence, they are advocating for it to be loud and vocal...

There was Nothing to stop you and you would have been within your right to!

Peaceful being the word, not chucking eggs or trying to drown out any speech he makes, when this visit was first mentioned a good few wanted him banned, for what exactly ? Its a very fine line trying to balance free speech and mob rule trying to stop another person making a point, as I have said lots of times, I am no fan of trump

If you think that anyone would hit the president of the united states with anything given the level of security around him youve no idea how these things work. The secret service have learned a thing or two since Reagan.

Trump has not been banned. He is free to visit. He is free to make whatever speeches he wants. So what are you whining about? Some people didnt want him to come and they are free to voice that opinion. Free speech has been preserved.

Technically Nixon wasn't impeached, he resigned. On the other hand Clinton was actually impeached in 1998 but remained in his post.

Impeachment is the process that allows a president to be legally tried. It is not a process for the removal of a president.

As point of information, after being impeached Clinton was acquitted in the trial stage.

It's rightly quite difficult to remove a sitting president.

Actually no we're not duty bound to ask the President of the USA or anyone else to visit the UK.

Also there are visits, official visits and state visits. Obama didn't get a State Visit until 2011. He had visits and official visits before then but not a State Visit. State Visits are an honour that we can choose to grant.
