Will she survive till 2018?

Jump to newest

By (user no longer on site) OP

I know it's early, I'm sure it has already been discussed.

But I can't help creating a clear thread to discuss it.

Will little Mrs May keep her title till 2018?

I'm already wondering if she will be removed after her appalling result this election on the basis or personal ability.

Or given how the Tory part got a bit humbled by ironically, some of it's own voting demographics, and the young who it penalised, is it about to slowly break in half?

For the moment it seems silent. There seems to be no noise coming from the biggest Tory voices. It truly feels like they just lost a significant battle and they are in shock from it, despite clinging on.

So how will Mrs May and her party fare? Predictions?

Nope. My local MP is Tory and supported May in the leadership election last year, however she has already publicly called for May to step down.

I feel she tried to just run a election race in high heels, despite her supporters saying dont.

How long till a vetran tory pulls out a long knife for her then?

Did you see the journalist try to ask BoJo if he still supported Theresa May? The question was repeatedly asked and he tesfused to answer eventually saying "it is early days yet".

She isolated the pensioner vote, and he got the under 25's out enmasse. It shows strongly even in core southern seats where you see the tory vote shrink whilst labour's rises.

This means two key things for the next campaign and manifesto:

The tories know that abandoning pensioners is too risky.

They cant neglect younger voters anymore. If they want their votes they need to offer them something.

The future of campaigns got a lot more interesting.

If they give more of the same next time labour will form a coilition or get a majority.

The British people can tell when they are clearly being taken for a ride, and as my grandad said, voting groups only stay with a party if their interests are met. Hence why the tory pensioner vote slipped away a bit.

Some people are speculating cameron coming back - that'd be funny.

The Orange Order Marches.

Celebrating the victory of Protestant king William of Orange over Catholic king James II at the Battle of the Boyne (1690).

I dont think many young people voted on free tuition, most ive chatted to acknoledge that it probs wont happen, at best fees might be reduced.

The biggest attraction I heard was the general idea of investment. Investment in the individual, society, community, public sector, and trying to make small buisnesses more competitive in the face of multinationals.

Most 18-25 year olds are far more clued up and care about far more than uni fees.

You realise that the youth vote was 18-25 yr olds right? Many of those do have jobs and some will have good grad jobs so many will be effected by income tax.

For those who are unemployed or on poor wages - well that's a failure in the government/economy for not creating good paying full time jobs for younger people.

Seriously your statement was ill thought out. Under 25's have poorer employment prospect than their parents, greater debt and less oppertunities in a stagnant economy.

Many like to work part time and I believe a good few zero hours, but accept that it does make life difficult for those who want a mortgage, guess as the job number has risen faster than immigration basic maths show many unemployed got jobs and as those retiring are from the baby boomers I guess more retire at the moment than leave school

Well ive just checked and cant find anything like that and they said they will reintroduce small compaines corporation tax, I assume that will be lower than main companies rate which I believe they want to raise to 29/30% from 19 and going down, now call me thick but that dont sound very business friendly, how is that going to make them competitive with irish rates, bet the irish government will love that

"The stories best hope is Pritti Patel without s doubt .

Tho I think everyone myself included now has to take Corbyn more seriously !

People do like him and will vote for him !

I was sure I never would and didn't but I'm on the fence now

But did they vote for him because he promised free uni etc

I dont think many young people voted on free tuition, most ive chatted to acknoledge that it probs wont happen, at best fees might be reduced.

The biggest attraction I heard was the general idea of investment. Investment in the individual, society, community, public sector, and trying to make small buisnesses more competitive in the face of multinationals.

Most 18-25 year olds are far more clued up and care about far more than uni fees.

How are labour going to make small businesses more competitive ?

I believe the manifesto said the government would provide tax reief to small and medium sized buisnesses in order for them to cope with rising wages.

Well ive just checked and cant find anything like that and they said they will reintroduce small compaines corporation tax, I assume that will be lower than main companies rate which I believe they want to raise to 29/30% from 19 and going down, now call me thick but that dont sound very business friendly, how is that going to make them competitive with irish rates, bet the irish government will love that"

I'm not an economics expert so I'll leave it to someone who is better at that.

All I will say is that people expect Scandinavian levels of health and social care, that money needs to come from somewhere.

Ireland might well love it, but truth be told until the international community decides t tackle tax avoidance as a community, it probably wont make much difference.

Lets face it if there is something that unifies everyone in the western world right now, it's that we are fed up of tax avoidance of internationals when the average person busts their gut so they can survive, let alone live.

Cant disagree with that and the mega pay of ceo's etc needs tackling especially those that seem to get rewarded for failure

By raising the NI contributions for the self employed....

How is that going to make small businesses more competitive?"

Sorry, that was the Tories that were going to do that remember

"Who is the shortest time serving PM? Could it be her? She thought she was another "Maggie" - she isn't! "

That honour goes to Andrew Bonar Law, who served as PM from 23rd October 1922 until 22nd May 1923. He resigned due to ill health and died soon after.

Also the only PM to have been born outside the UK; he was Canadian.

"I tend to agree.......she missed an open goal.

I feel she tried to just run a election race in high heels, despite her supporters saying dont.

How long till a vetran tory pulls out a long knife for her then?

Yes agreed not long before that happens

Who do we reckon will start the political assasination then?

it will be bojo!!!!!

anyway.... gone by november! We should run a book on this I reckon gone before September. Her successor is someone we do not know about it will be a new young gun I think Pritti Patel

I doubt it, she's backed too many hard tory ideas. Shed be a tory vote winner but not centre vote winner I imagine.

Heidi Allen is it? She has a better chance."

she is not a bad shout actually....

I would have suggested someone like Nicky Morgan.... but she would be considered too much of a lefty for the tories....

The pair of them sometimes sound so left I'm surprised they didn't jump to the lib dems during the election.

The tories would never put them as leaders though, the party operates through power politics and power lenses and both of them don't stack up.
