Rudd had around 200 to 300 majority which is massive compared to the Newcastle under Lyme seat where the Labour candidate won by just 30 votes, that's what you call skin of your teeth.

It wasn't a great Corbyn campaign. A great Corbyn campaign would be a Labour majority and he didn't get it. If you think coming 2nd on 266 seats is a great campaign then you must have had very low expectations to begin with.

Corbs took seats from all parties and added more to the Labour vote since 1945, May's hubrised herself out of a job, Caroline Lucas DOUBLED her majority... meanwhile ukip did their usual thing of not bothering to win a single seat

May has also took seats from all parties (SNP, Lab, Ukip and Lib dems). Ukip won a seat in the 2015 general election in case you forgot and won outright the last European MEP elections. Caroline Lucas was helped by the Lib dems who didn't put up a candidate in her constituency of Brighton, so pretty obvious she would increase her majority.

Corbyns dithering on Brexit seems to have grabbed enough remainers to give him enough gains to totally shaft May. She now has to go....

Wrong to call the pointless election. Delivered a totally crap manifesto (author got to go too!). Headed the worst campaign in the history of politics.

Leaves me wondering if remainer May has done this deliberately....our position as a country going into Brexit is now massively undermined. The EU in a position to fuck us over. Is this not just the end of a "hard" brexit....but of any brexit?

The fact that we now have a deeply divided UK is entirely the fault of the Tories. First Cameron gave way to appease UKIP and his right wing and went for the EU referendum which, in turn, led a further demand for a 2nd Scottish Indyref. This was worsened by Mays greed in thinking she could expect a massive majority.

Tories have fucked up this country big time.

Just reflecting on how weird how things have turned out today.

Voter turnout is up on previous General elections and the Conservatives have increased their share of the vote from 36% to 43% - but have lost their majority because yesterdays election was effectively a 2 horse race (at least in England).

So more people have voted for them than in recent elections. They have secured more votes than they did in 2015 - and yet the Prime Ministers position is weakened

Wow, no one predicted the absolute kicking the SNP would take. Seen the exit polls last night and thought they were wrong but they've turned out to be spot on. Salmond, Robertson and Nicolson going has made my day. It could've been worse but they managed to hold on to Fife by 2 seats.

Indyref2 is now dead in the water thankfully. Although saying that, I'd hold it tomorrow as it's clear what the result would be with Unionist parties getting over 60% of the vote.

Their deputy leader and former leader both lost their seats and the party took massive losses elsewhere. Indyref2 also put to bed. Not a great result from where I'm sitting.....

Pete Wishart winning is hugely disappointing but he scraped through by 21 votes. Unbelievable that despite how bad this was, in realtive terms, for the SNP that they were very very close to losing a further 2 seats.

Quick analysis appears to show that if the Greens in Scotland hadn't stood aside to help the SNP (standing only 3 candidates in 2017 compared to 32 in 2015) then the SNP would've lost a further 5 seats

Brexit is happening, like it or not. Article 50 is triggered and there's no way out of Brexit now.

The reality of these Brexit "negotiations" are that we never were in a position to negotiate.

No conditions were ever agreed when we joined the EU for us or any member state to leave. All we have is Article 50 which basically means we can leave but once we say we are leaving, we are committed to leaving on whatever terms Brussels impose.

Are side of the negotiations are basically begging them to go easy on us as we have absolutely no authority to negotiate on anything.

But this wasn't an election restricted to Scotland, it was a UK wide election and so I found it laughable that Alex Salmond and Nicola Sturgeon were claiming that they had won the election.

I have no dog in the fight either way really. in fact I will admit that despite my objective assessment of EU membership, my best interests would be served marginally better by political and economic circumstances that would be detrimental to the majority but... the momentum for remaining in the EU is unstoppable. The young remainers, with time will replace the largely older brexiters.

It's only right really. It's there future. Whatever happens, they will always know that it was their choice.

Corbyn said repeatedly during the televised debates that free movement from the EU must end. The only way he can achieve this is to leave the single market, the EU have made it crystal clear if you stay in the single market you must accept free movement (Corbyn can't do both). Also I never actually said anywhere on here I was placing a bet I only said what the best odds were and that was a 40 -60 Tory majority. I didn't actually put a bet on it myself.

the key now is that the big hitting centrists on the labour side have now seen what corbyn can do... and fully now buy in and come back on the front bench....

they run this like a bernie sanders campaign again, next time they are in a position to win because they can now say to young people " you made a difference last time..... imagine if more of you come out and vote...... !!!"

i think the tories found out a few things....

you are not going to be able to run on brexit forever....

your leader is not going to be able to duck debates....

your policies are going to have to be costed!!!

Corbyn's campaign, like Saunders', was based on the populist lie that you can have all that you want and, because someone else is going to pay for it, it won't cost you a penny. If his plans were ever implemented it would be economic melt down for the UK.

Problem is that the Conservatives can't really play the economically pragmatic and competent card against him while also backing BREXIT which is the most economically disastrous policy sine 1929.
