Continue here, who do you reckon will win? It will be close and labour could have a chance

Labour haven't got anywhere near a chance of getting a Majority.

They have always needed a strong result in Scotland to get a majority and that just isn't going to happen.

The question really is can the Conservatives get an overall majority or will they be just shy of the 326 seats that they need and instead form a minority government.

Exit polls are incredibly unreliable anyway - and have been for years, so it's really too early to predict it.

Remember just 2 years ago, the Conservatives were predicted to be the largest party but without a majority - and as we know they actually got the majority that they needed.

"Nick Clegg to loose his seat?"

Interestingly his is the only seat I'd like the Lib Dems to hold.

Doesn't get the credit he deserves and was unfairly punished by the electorate in 2015.

In 2010 he put Country before Party - which it seems very few are prepared to do now (maybe having seen what happened to the Lib Dems)

I see that Conservatives have held Nunneaton, which they took from Labour in 2015

Totally agree with you on that.

Whilst it was perhaps admirable of him to resign from the Conservative Party and trigger a bi-election over Heathrow expansion, he's gone on to show his true colours after losing that bi-election by jumping back into bed with the party he left.

"I always find it rather amusing how members of the Labour party start to praise themselves and practically declare a victory when just under 60 of the 650 seats have been declared.

It's still early

The real thing that amazes me is that Labour think they've had a victory but there still nowhere near the numbers required to form a government on their own.

No but give us some credit as at least they are still in the lead"

I've already given Corbyn credit for exceeding expectations. However Labour is not in the lead and the only party, on current predictions and results, likely to form the next Government is still the Conservatives.

Labour are on course to have the numbers to be a proper opposition though. Given the starting base, they are have exceeded all expectations.

True, but lets face it, it's better than a rampant unchecked Tory party - atleast for me.

Plus, given a 2 year internal civil war, brexit and the legacy of the deficit, this is better than the projections. Yes it could be better, but it could be worse.

A result that blair will be laughing at - against the worst conservative campaign of all time while the economy is in the shitter and a foolish PM. If corbyn can't win now he never will. Even if you add lib dem, snp, the stupid welsh party and greens they wouldn't have a majority

An interesting Statistic on the BBC.

Apparently, the Conservatives are currently on 44% share of the vote.

That is the same share that Tony Blair had in his landslide victory of 1997 and Margaret Thatcher had in 1983.

Apparently, in a 3 party system that we essentially had then, that is enough to get a landslide, but when it effectively becomes a 2 party system (with all the small parties pretty much nowhere) that figure makes it much more difficult.

That is interesting. I think people are less willing to vote for the centre ground parties when labour and conservative go to the extremes. People are more likely to vote against the nasty party / money tree party than for what they really believe in.

Blairs worst result was 355.

Labour have lost seats every single election since 1997, that trend was obviously going to bounce back at some point, that's called regression to the mean. Corbyn reminds me of the brazilian athlete in the Olympics who went mental celebrating his bronze medal!

It was a Tory PM called this election early, based on frankly a weak, duvided and ill prepared Labour party.

She felt she could add to her majority then push through anything she wanted.

The Tory party have failed. Dismally. You are desperately trying to deflect us from that fact.

It has strengthened Corbyn's hand mightily. Now the Labour party will have to unite around him, there's no excuses left.

This was not an election for Labour to win, but on most measures the Conservatives have lost.

I'm delighted to see Theresa May go. I called her incompetent the first day she took office because i know what her performance as Home Secretary was like. I'm also happy to see the SNP lose a lot of seats. It's a considerably better result for those of us in the centre than was forecast.
