Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Is the tide turning to younger leaders, with a different view and experience of the world?

Macron in France, with an older wife.

Ireland with Leo Varadkar as the next, and first gay, taoiseach.

Both under 40 and the youngest to hold the roles.

Is Varadkar also the first out, gay leader?

How can we be sure he's gay? I think we deserve some sort of proof, like a video of it going in a man's actual arse, or a picture of his record collection.

Jeremy Thorpe was leader of the Liberal Party (pre lib dems) Don't think anyone doubted that he was as gay as the gayest gay in gay town.

Ireland showing how far behind the times by having a gay PM 45 years after we did.

Is the equivalent test required for straight leaders?

My pondering was more about a new breed of younger leaders who don't fit the traditional mould.

I do think that younger leaders qill become more commonplace in the run up to and post 2030.

Brexit, this election and the French election are said to heald the end of the post-war era mindset. This can be seen in people questioning the need and effectiveness of post war institutions such as NATO and the EU.

Come 2030 the pressure will be on for the current 40+ politicians. They will have to come to terms with rapid job automation and loss. A far more different society. I think people will be looking for younger people to tackle the new issues of the true post-war era.
