"The Torres and UKIP Had about 55% between them at the 2015 election. So 330 seats between them....270 between ALL the rest. A 60 seat majority for the only viable coalition and an extremely hard brexit with no requirement for a 2017 election. There's your "true" PR!" I like it

Modern democracy is inclusive.. My thoughts were invoked with those who fought for the right to vote, like the suffragette Emily davison who was killed on the racecourse

Modern democracy is inclusive.. My thoughts were invoked with those who fought for the right to vote, like the suffragette Emily davison who was killed on the racecourse" I'm not proposing a test that would exclude any reasonably intelligent person who could be bothered to spend a day or two every 5 years to educate themselves on the issues so I'd be gobsmacked if an Emily davison wouldn't pass! The problem with blanket inclusion is, that by definition it includes people who don't understand the issues. Even if 100% passed the test, it would still be worthwhile because some of them would have educted themselves to pass it and hence would make better decisions afterwards.

"You try to start an original thread and everyone goes off track ! " PR isn't original, all the looney toons love it because it would give them more power. There's nothing like interweb forums to bring out the fruit cakes. I'd be happy with PR if we had standards for who can vote but in the abscence of that, first past the post does a good job of keeping the david ickes out of power.

"That's not my point !!!! I'm simply saying for a bit of Fun !!!! Try and guess the outcome if we did have P R !!!" If we had PR then more people would vote lid dem because they wouldn't feel their vote was wasted in constituencies they can't win first past the post. So i think they'd do better than your 10%

"If it was like this tho what do you think the results would be ? Il have a go lol I think thier are 600 seats but I stand to be corrected lol Conservative 35 percent so so approx 240 Labour 25 percent so Approx 150 Lib dem 10 per cent so 60 UKIP 5 percent so 30 SNP ( tricky this as whole of uk ) il say 10 per cent so 60 Green 5 percent so 30 Sin fine , DUP , SDLP, Ulster Unionists , Clyd Cumryw probbally 1 or 2 percent each so between 6 or 12 seats each I didn't have a calculator so I'm sure I've given out more seats than thier is lol But hopefully you can see the idea Predict away Remember if this were the system you could vote for Any UK party no matter where you lived ! Also I'm sure a lot of people would vote differently knowing thier vote Counted ! Have Fun " This only adds up to 92-94%! For me: Con - 32.5% since i don't think many people who vote for them are tactically voting Lab - 25% lose their tactical voters to lib dem Lib Dem - 22.5% benefit from the labour tactical voters Other - 20% UKIP decline but greens and obscure parties do better

"That's not my point !!!! I'm simply saying for a bit of Fun !!!! Try and guess the outcome if we did have P R !!!" You can look up on wikipedia the percentage of the vote that each party got so you can work it out from there. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Kingdom_general_election,_2015 So how would it work OP, could the people of Cambridge vote for the DUP, SNP or Plaid Cymru? Would those MP be able to vote on English only issues such as education? If I had a problem, who could I talk to? Now I have an MP locally that I cant speak to face to face just a few miles away. In the future would everyone have to travel to London to see an MP? What if your problem is about benefits and you cant afford to get to London? If an MP resigned or died in office, would the by-election be nationwide? Who would represent the people and interests of Cambridge, or Ipswich or Newport etc?

It was meant to be a bit of fun imagining what the results would be !
