Politics as a family business

Should politics be a family business? I think this is a bigger issue in the states, by both sides of the aisle, we can look at families like the Kennedy’s, the Clinton’s and the Bush’s of course, and Trump has his son-in-law and now his daughter both in the WH. Hiring family has caused big problems in the French election this year as well, and of course there are also examples in the UK too, fathers and sons, husbands and wives, brothers, sisters etc. Hell, it wasn’t really that long ago that we got rid of hereditary peers in the UK! But perhaps North Korea are the best in the world in this field.

Do you think that there are positives to big political families/dynasties, or is it a bad idea to mix family and politics?

As I have said, this happens across the political spectrum, so I hope we don’t get too fixated on particular examples of this phenomena and who knows, old adversaries might be able to find some common ground on a new topic. (Also, lets not mention the B word!)

Well it has proven very lucrative for our (the UK's) Royal Family (and some others dotted around the world)...

However the flip side of that is it has also proven catastrophic for many other Royal Families.

Guess politics is a risky business...

No policy is policy it has no relevance to which genetics thought it up and enacted it!

Fraud and corporatism however thrive on back slapping and secrets and thats where family come in handy, because family rarely squeal on you unless your a Godfather facing 100 life sentences , then its every man for himself

I understand where you are coming from, but I do think that the UK Constitutional Monarchy model is the best I have seen so far and that does require the head of state to spend their life either preparing to inherit the roll or preforming the roll. Therefore I would have to disagree with you unless you consider rolls in the Armed Forces as being outside politics, and there I would need a lot of convincing as I see the Armed Forces and Civil Service as being purely political in nature.

The monarchy have no power so I dont count them as political, they do indeed spend their entire life serving their country

I would tend to agree, I think the core of the family are very good and very well respected and do a lot of good work, some of the wider family, perhaps not quite so much.
