With all the segueing over Brexit , why not fully sort things and have a referendum for all 4 members of the Uk on independence ! If England leave , the other 3 Country's could stay as the uk and stay in EEC !

And us English could live independently happy ever After

Very good, Mr Suit.

We've all seen your very frequent posts on how much you'd love to see an independent England.

Perhaps you'd have a better argument if you'd learn the difference between 'there' and 'their' and how to spell.

It amazes me how many 'Brexeteers' (how I hate that word) can't spell and don't appear to have a fundamental grasp of the English language. Many wouldn't even qualify as Uber drivers!

Idependance would not mean they could stay in the eu. Spain has said many times that they would block scotland from joining so guess that goes for any of the others. They have thier own problems with independance and are not going to encourage it so have no idea how the home nations will beable to join.

That would be good, england and wales can be one, whilst ireland and scotland join eu and still be with the single market, whilst england could have tariffs as high as 35%, it will be a complicated border, but it would work

Well if N.Ireland and Scotland voted for independence and somehow got access to the EEC (like Norway) or miraculously got into the EU - I imagine England and Wales would have to really listen to young people and take efforts to stop serious 'brain drain'.

Seriously, I imagine one of the biggest 'minor' issue which post brexit Britain will have, and would have if either of the above happened, is retaining young professionals with high qualification skills and those who wish to have small business start-ups.

This of course hinges on whether the EU evolves or collapses and that is a different debate.

In short the English and Welsh Brexiteers might find themselves with a top heavy population pyramid and not enough young, high wage earners to tax to support the NHS and social care.

Logically speaking that is not a good recipe.

No , I don't think we do ."

It's debatable whether it is a yes or no. But I think the complexity of the Union and all the different economic and social factors added up and it's probably a tit for tat reliance.

That said, care to respond to some of the issues I posted?

I guess if Scotland gained independence then it would be reasonable to assume it would also remain or rejoin the EU. It would also be reasonable to assume it would be more advantageous to an economic migrant in England to continue North to make use of the generous EU welfare state. Obviously there would be no point staying in England once our economy has been crippled by Brexit...

That might be one possibility.

But how about you address what my post was really about - you know a big number of those British undergrads and the new wave apprenticeships qualified in computer software development, soliciting ect POSSIBLY looking at taking their skills out of England and Wales, because you know, they might not like the idea of being taxed higher down the line for less public services.

Does it not worry you that England and Wales in this scenario might very well end up with less high quality skills, and less middle class earners/affluent working class earners. You know the people who are the meant to be the bulk of the tax payer and consumer market?

High quality skills such as what? "

Biotech, chemistry, engineering, biomedical sciences, software development, computer sciences, A.I programming, robotics, nursing? Mental healthcare and therapists? Even those doing apprenticeships in banks, law firms, some multinational engineering companies. These are the kind of people a country needs to retain, and these are the kind of people who are likely to leave the moment they realise they will become burdened.

And yes, I realise that the UK public is already highly taxed and gets comparatively little for the rates and that is exactly what I am saying.

Remove the tax revenue from Scotland and the taxpayers expense for services in scotland and does the rest of the union get a net increase or decrease in tax funds to spend of public services?

Also, if, and big if, the Scotts were to get access to the EEC, or the EU, then not only is England competing with the likes of frankfurt, paris, berlin, dublin and other international cities to become attractive areas to invest and set up business hubs, but we are also competing with Edinburgh and Glasgow.

What I am trying to say is, if England does not remain competitive, what keeps the young individuals of this nation here to pay taxes, which will then fund the NHS, social care ect?

You said it yourself, taxes are already high with the feeling of little in return.

So why are you professionals, with high levels of debt from studying possibly, going to stay here only to be taxed more and with a potentially higher cost of living?

"The combination of the Brexit result and yesterdays election results in Northern Ireland has definitely weakened the Union. "

With changing demographics, an Ireland liberated from church influence becoming a more modern environment than Ulster, and pig-headed unionist politicians representing so badly the average voter who wants to move away from sectarianism - the prospect of a reunified Ireland draws ever closer to becoming reality.

The sooner, the better.

Yeah don't get me wrong you are right, capitalism has failed, or is failing on it's current projectory in the eyes of the working, affluent, and lower-middle class.

I agree with you.

The only thing is, brexit is if anything, likely to make Britain more capitalist.

Also, the people you lumped me in with, the young, skilled section of society, are like you, most of us aren't happy with how international corporations can form monopolies and exploit the labour forces of varying nations willy nilly.

It's just many young people view brexit as a process which for a significant amount of time make britain very capitalist and corporation 'friendly' in order to remain competitive, at the expense of the bulk of society.

Unfortunately people vote for how they have been affected. My salary has been driven down by economic migrants so given the chance again I'd vote out. If we've created a generation of computer programs then our society is already doomed. Clearly we don't need builders, plumbers, electricians, motorvehicle mechanics, aircraft technicians, nurses, teachers etc etc etc because we'll just get immigrants to do that while we tap away a keyboard creating a new App.... for pity's sake! Are the English too precious to get their hands dirty now?!

What's the EEC?...... that disappeared ages ago.

That was what we voted to remain in in 1975 (not me...but the country). It was a coalition of individual nations, trading together in harmony.

It no longer exists. It was replaced by a beaurocratic behemoth ruled by a bunch of unelected tosspots from their ivory tower in Brussels.

"Funny how thier are no replys when you take the name of Scotland away from the word Independence !

Nice one! another tory picking on working class people with lower education/ iq levels! Oh my heart bleeds for you! Will your skiing holidays be more expensive? Or your weekends in Paris not quite as slick through customs as they used to be! "

Shows how much you can deduce from my posts. First, I've never voted Tory in my life nor would I ever. By tradition, I'm a Labour voter until they sold out. Second, I've never been on a skiing holiday and finally, I've never had a weekend in Paris although I did pass through it once.

My father actually worked in the coal mines around Edinburgh, not much of a Tory upbringing is it?

Just because I take a degree of pride in my grasp of the English language doesn't mean I've somehow metamorphosed into some kind of upper class twit.

I come from a working class family but worked hard at school and managed to get to University. I fully approve of comprehensive education and believe that everyone, irrespective of their background, be given an equal opportunity. Whether they choose to take advantage of it or not is down to the individual. So please don't tar me with your own prejudices.

Yet you're quite happy to point out other people's failings... we actual Labour supporters can do without you champagne socialists thankyou very much. No matter how much you protest.

Perhaps you'd have a better argument if you'd learn the difference between 'there' and 'their' and how to spell.

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of Champagne but if you're buying, I'll have one.

Frankly, poor standards in English isn't restricted to the working class no matter how much you appear to want it to be. I've met plenty of upper class twits with expensive educations that can't string a sentence together.

Poor literacy is not the sole reserve of the working classes (if such a thing exists today).

Anyway, how do you know Mr Suit is working class or is that just another assumption on your part?

Indeed they did but Mr Suit will only be happy when England is all by itself in its own little world. All these wonderful trade deals will have come rolling in and they won't have to bother with those annoying countries next door.

There is a case for london being a special economic zone.Permits could be issued for free movement only to London for migrants. The visa would only be good for working inside M25.

One of the main reasons that manufacturing within the M25 boundary isn't a major force is commercial property prices in this region prohibit manufacturing growth.

However, apart from the massive income from the City of London other sectors thrive in Greater London, including overseas Tourism....which is an industry in itself, up to £15bil annually in the capital. The service sector within Greater London is also massive, with more non banking Office jobs than the rest of the country put together.

It's a mistake to view London only as a banking city..... taxable income is the measure of a successful economy, and London thrives.

Taxable income, in other words income tax, corporation tax, VAT, business rates.....on top of that associated income from industries that service and supply these offices.

It's simple business economics.......

London was once a major manufacturing hub, employing over 1.5 mil Londoners in the 1960's....now down to around 250,000.

Much the same with most major European capital cities, mostly down to the associated costs of manufacturing in the capital.

Anywhere else in the country it's known as regeneration, population just evolves.

Education is up there in the quote. There are lots of jobs in local government including education. A quick bit of internet research or common knowledge will tell you where London's economy is and its not all about banking. Unless you are deliberately trying to be argumentative .... for a change

Jobs have been government subsidised in post manufacturing regions of the UK ever since the early 70's, most of which lay outside of the South East......great swathes of the country have been employed with government intervention.

"Funny how thier are no replys when you take the name of Scotland away from the word Independence !

Nice one! another tory picking on working class people with lower education/ iq levels! Oh my heart bleeds for you! Will your skiing holidays be more expensive? Or your weekends in Paris not quite as slick through customs as they used to be!

Yet you're quite happy to point out other people's failings... we actual Labour supporters can do without you champagne socialists thankyou very much. No matter how much you protest.

Sorry, i don't know either way. But i don't have any respect for bullys like you. "

I'm not quite sure how you assume I'm bullying anyone?

Who and how, precisely, have I been involved in bullying?

As another poster has already pointed out, you're the one that appears to be verging on bullying. You certainly appear to assume that anyone who disagrees with you is either a Tory, a champagne socialist (which, I assume, is some kind of insult, in your mind) or a nimby. In my original post, I criticised poor spelling and lack of grammar neither of which, to my mind is bullying. You are the one that implied that it was an a attack on 'the working class' which it certainly wasn't. As I've already pointed out, poor spelling is not the sole reserve of any social class.

If you're going to accuse anyone of bullying, I suggest you put your own house in order first.

Sorry, but in what way is that bullying? It's a critique on what I see as a basic lack of knowledge of the English language by many proponents of Brexit.

Mr Suit have frequently posted on his desire to see an 'independent England' and to disassociate with Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. He is, of course, perfectly entitled to his point of view. I merely suggested he might have a stronger argument if he had a better command of the language of the country he so fervently wishes to see independent. No bullying intended or implied.

I'm not really sure why you're taking up cudgels on his behalf? Mr Suit has already responded to my comments and admitted that spelling isn't his strong point which is fair enough.

The validity of any statement is made stronger by the proper use of grammar and english. Ask any employer if they're going to take more notice of a well crafted CV or one filled with spelling and grammatical errors. Sorry if that offends your socialist point of view and gives the impression I'm a closet Tory but it's a fact of life. A well prepared and written argument will win over a poorly written one every time.

Finally, (because I've had enough of this pointless argument) there is a difference between a 'cheap shot' and bullying but you seem, somehow, to have made the leap. In what way is my 'cheap shot' any different from you calling me and other contributors champagne socialists or nimbys? I suggest you put your own house in order before you accuse others of bullying and taking cheap shots.

"One of the main reasons that manufacturing within the M25 boundary isn't a major force is commercial property prices in this region prohibit manufacturing growth.

.

I don't think that's true.

Beijing factory floor prices start at about £3000 a sq meter!

Yet it still manufactures stuff, so does Shanghai.

The reason they stopped manufacturer in London along with many other capital cities in Europe was just infrastructure, you could never ever get vast volumes of stuff in and out of London, it would just be stuck in a traffic jam for hours on end, also there's just not enough water or power, on top of that like every other capital it's hugely expensive for labour due to over priced residential prices and the knock on of service prices.

In reality it is the emperors new clothes held together by huge debt and political will
