Grantham

Something that we will hear a lot about in the coming weeks.

Some to pay more for their business rates, some to pay less.

Fair? Not fair?

Mine are stopping the same, so a neutral position here.

The problem is we want everything for nothing. We are encouraged to barter by the expert's - look how much we can save-at someone else's expense! All we see is "wealth" shop's are full of goods-what we don't see is what are the costs - especially small businesses who are the backbone of the UK economy. What do they get for their business rates? I saw that a small chocolatier who pays £27kpa is being increased to £47kpa? Can they survive? What price will they have to charge? They have to make £1,000pw just to pay the rates -surely enough is enough?

As a small business owner I see the government going for easy targets. When we started the business I asked our local council what I was getting for my money. Her reply Nothing. I have to pay a local contractor to dispose my own waste. I have to maintain the outside of my shop. On top of that we pay insurance, water rates and rent. The Government feels like the Sherriff of Nottingham

What do you expect from the government of big business and the super rich?

Did you really expect them to support small businesses and ordinary people? The tories have not done that since the time of Ted Heath and in today's political climate he would be called a communist subversive by our supposedly centre right government.

Small business seems to be penalised so much in this country it is unreal, considering the government is meant to be the party of enterprise.

The high streets are becoming a wasteland and we are losing individualty it is sad and wrong.

West London

We are getting our country back though so once that's sorted and our government isn't forced into doing this by faceless bureaucrats it will all be sorted.

Oh. It's our own fault. So much so that business rates on NHS facilities will also go up.

Yay us!

Perhaps the Commons will vote against it? Oh no, it goes through on the budget which is whipped. So press outrage, hasty change, hole in the budget. More debt.

It's based on the rateable value of that property. If area improves, owner improves it etc its value increases. If your house goes up in value you win, if your the property your business is in goes up in value your rates increase. It's that simple. (Business owner)

Small businesses are not being penalised. Relief has gone up and rates have gone either up or down dependant on value in the area.
