I dont know so much about it either of why they do it, just heard it on the news, but yes. I reckon it is about jerusalem being disputed too, we will know more soon.

Great news (though of course l am biased)

lt's time in my opinion that we stop pandering to lslamist states. We have done that enough and it has got us nowhere.

We need to stop the persecution of Christians too. No one talks bout that because ''lslamophobia'' Ooooohhh scary. Seriously though, most lsraeli Christians are usually Arameans and their numbers are plummeting. They used to be the Majority in Nazareth now they are barely 20%. Same with Lebanon. Lebanon was the only Christian majority nation but not now.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Jerusalem set to be divided under the two state agreement?.

In which case what difference will basing an embassy there make?

It makes US foreign policy a nonsense and that's before he tweets again about Taiwan. The goal is a two state solution so moving the embassy to a city that is part of any future negotiation makes it a mockery of that peace process before it is resumed.

If this story is true it is ridiculous. Embassies are in capital cities because embassies are the official residences of Ambassadors and diplomatic missions attached to countries and they need to have easy direct access to the government of the country they are posted to. Therefore such a move would only serve to sideline the US diplomatic mission in Israel for a grand gesture, because Israel will not move their seat of government to Jerusalem.

Now that I have written down why I think such a move would be idiotic I have to admit that it does sound like an idea that The Donald would think up.

l think they will. People forget how tiny lsrael is because of the Islamic and left wing propaganda making the world think the Jews are slaughtering millions of Muslims and Crusading. lb reality, Jerusalem is the Capital and the total area of lsrael is less than the Scottish highlands.

In your reality maybe, but not under international law.

So according to the BBC article on this, there is a big difference to what is being mention on this thread so far:

"The Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995 requires the US president to transfer the embassy to Jerusalem unless he certifies every six months that it is not in the national interest."

So it is not just a case of him suddenly deciding to move the embassy. It is a case that someone has indicated that come May, when Trump had to re-certify that he might not.

Quite a big difference.

it won't happen.... it will be one of those things that is kicked "down the road"

only when there is some "two state solution" will that happen

a few reasons.... doing it now would isolate every arab ally the US has....

logistically even thought it is what israel would eventually like... you are then talking security issues in maintaining an embassy for both the us and israel...

International Law is a joke. Literally.

We will see. l've been right about all the other recent stuff. l know that you can't even fathom it but then again, Brexit happened. Trump happened. Many things are happening and now lsrael has given the go ahead for more settlements. They go for peanuts too. Very tempting.

Watch this space!

thing with regards to this subject is that it is actually more for the domestic consumption of jewish americans than it is israel... because it is much more a symbolic act.....

the people who put their money behind trump (sheldon addelson) won't be happy, but it won't change things.....

I won't claim any more insight than you Fabio but I think you might be underestimating the power of the far-right in Israel, some of those bonkers racial purity types that are in Netanyahu's coalition are hell-bent on transforming Israel's democracy into an ethnocracy and this is a major plank for them.
