Is football the religion of the masses?

Or is it celebrity culture?

Personally I think both if these are lazy comparisons ... okay, I get the way they are controlling and keeping 'the masses' quiet and busy, but do either football or celebrity culture espouse a way of living a life that 'believers' adhere to?

What about identity and race? Are football and celebrity culture microcosm of society as a whole?

Okay, yes, I am on FA cup overload as well as watching a live game and another set up tomorrow ....

Why shouldn't it be in the politics section? It is about mind control, which is politics, surely? I can post it where I want to ... its not all about brexit down here, you know ...

Didn't someone once describe football as 'the opiate of the masses'?

Is not the very foundation of the professional game today one of tribalism where 100's of thousands if not millions of people are divided by a few 100 millionaires kicking a ball around for 90 minutes?

Is that not a perfect analogy for politics today?

.

Your right it is about mind control.... All consumption is about telling people what they want and how bad their life would be without it?.

If football was so great, you wouldn't need to spend 1000s of hours and hundreds of millions of pounds telling you how great it is?.... But then they do it with everything, it's mind control to consume

Sportspeople and entertainers do indeed jump on the politics bandwagon and vice versa, so maybe I should not have included religion here at all. Sportsmen in the USA for example, especially the black community, have used their sport to make political statements. I am trying to think of anything similar in Britain, but it is late ....

Used to live for my football. Not any more.

It's awash with money at the top end. Paying 17yos many thousands a week is just immoral. One at my club spent upwards of £60k on a flash car and he hadn't even passed his driving test!

It's all style and no substance now, and Tbh, the likes of Sky and BT can fuck off as they've ruined the sport of the working man!
