Just been reading a New York Times article called 'how republics end'.

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/12/19/opinion/how-republics-end.html?_r=0

Does this explain what is happening in the USA and UK? Or is it more moaning by losers?

Durham

I agree with him.

Some people have lost touch with what is really important.

Was it Plato who said republic's decline into democracies and democracies into despotism

A constitutional monarchy is to all intents and purposes a republic as all the power is really vested in the executive, legislature and judiciary. The only thing we lack is a partisan politician as titular head of state.

But that is neither here or there, I was drawing political comparisons.

A dangerous thing to do here. Because people just as pernickety as me will jump on any error with enough substance to get a good bite on!

And I would not have it any other way!

Now if it were the grammar, spelling and punctuation police then I would feel aggrieved!

Have you noticed how many posts are now using spelling and grammar to score cheap points?

Isn't it a good job that certain posters don't understand pernickety!
