There are 3 main options as far as I can see.

1) We stay in the Single Market

2) We leave the EU and use WTO tariffs until we can negotiate a FTA with the EU

3) We leave the EU and reduce all of our tariffs for every product for every country in the world to zero.

Would we not have to agree to free movement of people for the EU to allow free trade. If so we might as well just stay in the EU and hope they reform.

no, I'm talking about the other way round

considering that the UK is a bigger customer of than supplier to the EU

The EU don't need our trade according to some people and the attitude of the EU so far seems to be very cold towards the UK so I don't think they will agree to anything but what they offer us but time will tell and the elections in France and Germany may make a difference later.

So should the UK set the same levels of tariffs as the EU, lower or higher?

The EU is going to put tarriffs on British goods which makes them less competitive to EU customers.

If the UK has no tarriffs on EU goods then it keeps EU products competitive with UK goods.

Basically you'll be putting British industry in the worst situation possible where they have very strong competition at home and immensely strong competition in one of their biggest markets.

Terrible idea from a UK perspective
