Renzi Resigns in Italy

Cannock

So it looks like (ex) Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi has lost the Italian Referendum. The official result not declared yet but the exit polls say he lost and the winning side won by 57% to 61%, quite a big margin of victory and a slap in the face of the EU and the Italian establishment. Renzi has made a speech and resigned as Italian Prime Minister. Not looking good for the EU and the Euro. There will now be a general election in Italy next year and the 2 anti EU parties who want to take Italy out of the Euro look well placed in the polls to win or form a coalition to carry it through.

Costa Blanca Spain...

Yep. As I posted in the other thread, but worth repeating on this one.

So much for all the posturing of the summer.

Going down like flies now.

Schulz..... Gone.

Hollande....Gone.

Renzi.......Next?"

OOPS!

Another one bites the dust.

Costa Blanca Spain...

I think that if this was a football match we'd be singing "It's all gone quiet over there" by now.

What are keeping score on? If it's EU then this is probably a penalty or a corner. If there is no GE then the new Renzi may be pro EU.

Of course he/she will be pro EU.

He/she will be INSTALLED by the EU. Remember Greece?

Yeah, the supporters of the EU were very quick to comment on the Austrian result but it seems to be silence from them on the Italian result, lol.

I commented on both but I'm pro EU and pro Brexit. I rely on the Euro to live, assuming anyone living with the Euro is too. Britain is lucky still have their currency.

Exactly how would you suggest they 'control' their immigration crisis when as soon as the spring tides come thousands will cross over from Libya in rubber rafts?.......Italy is their destination, do you suggest the Italian navy blows them out of the water?

Looking forward to hearing your solution.....

The only thing that really could help is to fence it up like hungary have done and to have checkpoints, it would be cheaper than a wall and quicker to build during the winter time.

You cannot fence up the entire southern Italian coast....it's a ridiculous idea, have you any idea what area of coastline you are talking about?

If it was that easy the Germans would have simply fenced up Italy and Sicily in WW2 to stop the allies from landing.....

That is right and I know you cant as the coast is very long, but it is a start in the right direction or they have to have police boats that guards the coast.

It's quite an efficient system really. The traffickers give the boats satellite telephones so that they phone up/send an SOS to the Italian Navy who then pick them up and drop them off on Lampedusa or other well known landing spots.

Regarding the solution what's your recommendation? Continued co-operation between the Italian Navy the EU and the human traffickers, or returning the illegals to Libya?
