"Tbh I think most people who are centre right or on the right would say tax avoidance is an issue to be dealt with rigorously - that said I get what you say, the right is seen as the side of big business and lobbyists conventionally and therefore tax avoidance might not be universally high on the agenda. If I were to go with a conventionally right wing view point I agree with, it's probably that we should try to restrict the movement of low skilled labour so that that aspect of the labour market is less saturated for those already in this country." I agree but for that to work then those you call low skilled have to be made to do those jobs

"I'm what most people would describe as right wing, (no shit Sherlock aye). But if there is a leftist policy I do agree with, it would be to nationalise and subsidise heavy industry. Personally I would also invest in finding ways to use coal without damaging the environment. I know it has been tried before, but scientific research has improved a lot since the 70's and 80's. This island is built on an almost unlimited amount of coal, there must be a clean way of using it as fuel." That is something I've said for a long time, specifically due to living in a former mining village. The pit here closed in 86, with at least 150 years reserves. Ideally, a safer method of extracting the coal could be found as well. And to safely and environmentally dispose of the waste product. My, my, I think we've agreed on something

"I am most definitely on the left politically and I can name 3 conservative/right wing policies I agree with: I am pro our independent nuclear deterrent. I am pro a large, strong, well armed and trained military. I am pro selection and streaming in state schools. Do I get extra prizes for the extra policies I support? " Lol it's quite surprising what people fo agree on tho I see some of the usual subjects on here have avoided this thread

Why are you pro the first two?. The third one I actually get . Personally I'm split about 50/50 however i would say I'm left left wing and right right wing. I don't have much centrist policies like your first two, and they are centrist policies. Far left views like abandoning this military bullshit narrative...I don't even think there far left there just fucking sensible, the world has moved on since ww2 , I'm not threatened by country's in Europe, Russia, China... The internet changed all that, everybody is connected today!. We'd probably be better off cutting the defence budget massively and increasing the surveillance budget, our enemy these days is more terrorist groups.... Right wing, well I'd probably cut child benefit completely and restructure benefits entirely

The problem lies in the scale of it. It's somewhere in the region of 4000 tonnes a minute you'd have to capture and then bury deep deep deep underground to stop it leeching back out..... Basically it's reverse oil/coal/gas extraction. Technology has moved on to other energy that doesn't require the massive scale of carbon capture fossil fuel. . Heavy industry has and always will go to the cheapest producer of energy NOT the cheapest manpower.... Today wind farm electricity is the cheapest electricity generated of all!! Wind is not the solution though, it's just an example of what can be

Lots of people say the usual it ruins the view stuff. But I'd say, a white, modern windmill looks nicer than a power station. Plus less air pollution on a local level, which is only good for your health. Cost benefit analysis - I choose a wind farm any day.

We'd probably be better off cutting the defence budget massively and increasing the surveillance budget, our enemy these days is more terrorist groups.... Right wing, well I'd probably cut child benefit completely and restructure benefits entirely" Although it is counterintuitive there can be no doubt that nuclear weapons have saved 10's of millions of lives in the past 70 years by stopping the worst excesses of those who would do nearly anything to wield more power. Therefore I want us to have full control of our nuclear weapons (just like France and the other nuclear powers). Our forces are woefully inadequate and under-equipped, if a serious conflict were to threaten our borders tomorrow we do not have the forces or equipment to defend ourselves. Further at present we do not have the manufacturing infrastructure to even keep pace with equipment loss let alone the spare capacity to rearm. By increasing the size of our armed forces not only would we relieve the pressure on those serving, but we would stimulate manufacturing growth, increase our skills base and reduce economic inactivity. Bringing back grammar schools would also help the above by giving the brightest of our children the best educational start ensuring that British children and British families prospered from the investment in our defence. (I would ring-fence all defence contracts demanding that all manufacturing had to be in the UK, and any foreign companies would have to set up British companies paying British taxes on all profits and that no foreign consultants could be employed directly or indirectly on all defence contracts). Think I may have even strayed into some very right wing territory there...
