There are 2 main active ingredients in cannabis, THC and CDB (think I have that right), these 2 have somewhat opposite effects on the brain and in times past they pretty much balanced each others harmful effects out. However with the arms race that has been caused by the 'drugs war' leading to the development of super strong strains such as skunk that balance has been disturbed and regular use of cannabis now causes serious mental illnesses including paranoid delusions. There is also a growing body of evidence that it also triggers psychotic breaks as well as long term dependency. Long gone are the days when you could toke away for months or years without any side effects (other than those related to inhalation of smoke) and shrug your shoulders and carry on as if nothing had happened if your supply became unavailable. I expect this post and thee thread will be gone soon which is a shame as this could stop someone destroying their life through lack of knowledge. | |||

California, Nevada and Massachusetts all voted positively yesterday which means that on top of the already legal states the momentum for change will be unstoppable. In fact i would not be surprised if I get a time out on the naughty step. I have a friend on the inside (phd research biochemist in a related field) and according to her the evidence is overwhelming. In fact the implications are important and opportunities for further funded research so large that she is thinking of entering the field once her current research grant runs out. | |||

" the real elephant in the room is that while the debate has been closed down for the last 50 years, there has been a 50 year void where there was no properly conducted independent research, just fragmented studies which have all been skewed with bias depending on which side of the lobby commissioned it. just think of the conclusive knowledge we would have if the anti-lobby had not totally stymied proper research for five decades by refusing to allow debate on the matter. | |||

Thanks for confirming what I have said. According to my friend the reason that the information, although in the public domain, is being suppressed is because the pharmaceutical companies are in a race to isolate and synthesise molecules that have the analgesic properties of the latest generation of cannabinoids but without the harmful side effects. At present she is working in the field of, and I quote:
Novel Identification of LYVE-1 Positive Macrophages in Rheumatoid Synovial Tissue
Haven't a clue what it is all about, except that it is related to pain relief in rheumatoid arthritis and cancer in some way.
She is much brighter than me and when we talk it quickly gets to: bla bla bla, cancer, RA, I nod, bla bla bla, I nod canabis, pain, I nod, bla bla bla, I nod...  | |||
