Theresa May in India

I'm a little confused as to why the Prime Minister thought it a good time to visit India to discuss trade, initially because I was under the impression that she had formed a little team of trade ministers to pave the way for trade post EU.....What really amazes me though is how she appears to have been stopped firmly in her tracks when the Indian government clearly linked trade to relaxed movement of people.

The EU has had 16 previous ill fated discussions with India regarding trade, only to have the same proviso of free movement thrown up.

It begs the question whether Theresa May is attempting to deliver a message to us in the UK that free trade will always involve issues of movement of people?

also the service industries, which are Britain's strongest industries, are exactly the industries that India doesn't want to open up.

I guess the question for Brexiters is which is more important, trade or immigration?

I know, at the moment the “Brexit means Brexit” slogan is holding the broad church together, but as soon as we have details coming out about exactly what Brexit will look like, it will shatter into a thousand factions.

An often heard argument from the Leave campaign was about how the other member states were the ones holding up trade deals from countries like India, with the rest of the UK. Its interesting to hear that sometimes it was infact the UK that was putting the brakes on deals, because the Home Secretary (now PM) was so worried about immigration.

I don't know about there being a 'together' faction in the first place on either leave or remain. Some people are clearly very much at either end of the spectrum, but most people find one aspect more important than another.

I agree there is a lot of discussion to be had. But that will happen when you bring back decision making - you have to make decisions....

It's not the movement of people that is the issue it's the unchecked flow that happens of people that are not needed I.e unskilled labour that our own people should be doing.

I agree.....if only you can get them to do it, only too often they see many jobs as being below them.

True, and why some are complaining about being capped at £20k pa benefits. Guess that is another thread though.

The thing is I know lots of low paid menial workers who are so called white englsh

So not all are living off the state granted there are a lot that do and many of those would live to work

One thing I have noticed is that in a lot of fast food restaurants there were predominantly asain people working there now I find its mostly white english

Well in my area anyway

So patterns seem to be shifting

Well in my area anyway

Part of the problem is that it has become much more acceptable for lots to live on benefits for extended periods of time, whereas doing 'menial' jobs isn't.

Yes, benefits as a safety net and for those with genuine problems, but paid work has to be the primary goal.

What I found funny is that she said she would be making it easier for Indians not only to get access to the UK but to the EU.

I wonder how our soon to be ex partners will feel about her doing deals to give access to their markets by the back door? After all what she is offering is that post our exit from the EU she will turn us into a Trojan horse for those in India who want access to the EU without having to deal with pesky EU regulations...

Personally, I think that the woman is an idiot, because if I can work out what she has just offered so very publicly every leader of the EU will have done the same.

I guess I now know why she stands the way she does and has little or no control over what comes out of her mouth. She must have the largest of remote control vibrating butplugs permanently installed and some real joker must have the remote turned up to 11!

Seems sensible to me as we want positive immigration coming to the UK

i think it's truer to say that they see the wages for most of the jobs on offer are not comensurate with the degree of work involved ..... i.e. the wages are extremely low

Actually what she said was she would simplify access to the EU and EUA. If you dont know what the EUA is, it is the EU carbon credits or pollution permit system. If you dont believe me go back and listen to what the woman said, google EUA then put your brain in gear and work out the implications of the statement.
