Brexiteers attack free speech and Western Democracy

Well sorry for the sound bite title, but does anyone find it concerning that a political councilor wants to make it illegal that any present and future debate over brexit and potentially re-joining the EU (or whatever it evolves into) should be a prosecutable offence?

Surely a virtue of western democracy and parliament is that we discuss and debate ideas, even if we disagree strongly with them.

I'll just say that I believe a lot of leave voters probably disagree with this notion and see the irony in the idea.

The Councillor in question is an 18 carat idiot, the referendum was to stay or leave, not to ban any further discussion about Brexit nor to ban any legal attempt to overturn it.....

You are confusing "one person with some support" with "all people who voted Brexit."

It is a fundamental error.

If you read my original post you will have noticed that I did say that I believe most leave voters would condemn such an undemocratic proposal.

Precisely, yet 'Brexit means Brexit' has clearly given some individuals - and seemingly this man's supporters a green light to voice ideas which would in effect limit parliament and stifle freedom of speech.

The last I read, his petition had attracted a whole 1,500 signatures. Not exactly great support.

Our system, thank goodness, gives people the liberty to raise issues. He has raised his. How precisely do you think that reflects on the Brexit movement, OP?
