"A bit toothless? Thoughts people. If you mean the UKIP in guvoumount then thay have my vote evey time." There's only one of them elected to the House of Commons, so if that's the maximum I'd tolerate it. Their exposure should be commensurate with their MP volume, ie negligable. They're opportunists largely and apparently imploding.

I, for one, am happy to have differing views in politics. It helps keep a balanced view of our country. We have to trust politicians as we in some way, vote for them to rule us and make our laws/decisions for us. But I don't, and have never trusted UKIP so therefore it would be impossible for me to ever vote for them...

"UKIP are neither "out there", nor "a failure". They are the biggest success in British politics as a new party for centuries. Which other new party has appeared on the scene and changed the political landscape? As you correctly say, they have only 1 MP who was a Conservative defector anyway, but they have many MEPs in the European Parliament and more importantly, they secured firstly a referendum on Europe and secondly, they achieved their aim in that referendum - to leave the EU. Without UKIP, David Cameron would never have offered the referendum." Plus UKIP were the 3rd largest party in terms of vote share at the last general election, they had higher vote share than the Lib dems and the SNP. If we had a proportional representation voting system instead of first past the post, UKIP would've got around 80 MP's elected to the house of commons.

"Oh, get off the fence! You don't have to have a PhD in politics, or reveal your political affiliation to see that UKIP have been a success. They achieved their name which was their goal. If I was a singer, and you hated my music, but I had a number one hit in every country in the world, you cannot deny that I am a success." will the success be just that the vote went the way they hoped (but didn't forsee)or will it be when we leave with whatever that means or only if its as they were selling to people before the referendum.. said it before that sometimes when you ask a question you may not like the answer you receive, suppose only time will tell..

"The whole purpose of UKIP was for us to leave the EU. We have voted to leave. The process of leaving starts no later than March. That is what they wanted and they have achieved that. Don't pretend otherwise." assuming that's in response to my post? if so no one is pretending that they through a weak PM at the time achieved the referendum.. hence my question, just how much of a success it will be for us all in the long term is open to question.. clearly regardless of how one voted its in all our interests that it is a 'success'..

"He wasn't a weak PM. He gave the country the opportunity that we so clearly wanted and we took it. For once he let the country decide. Perhaps Blair should have done that with the Iraq war. " he made a pledge and never expected to be in a position to have to deliver it.. agree and ditto with the FI and Libya..

"And it's because he came across as a nice bloke who you'd have a pint with rather than a pompous, Eton, Oxbridge posh twit, with a sense of entitlement, that people listened to him." I personally believe most people were not farage fans in any way but voted for him just to show how displeased we were with Cameron etc who have taken the piss out of us just too blatatantly. Farage always appeared as a cartoon character more than a serious politician..wtf trusts a torythat wears yellow cords?

"Reports emerging that Farage had dinner with James last night, and is now resuming his role as leader. He can't let go and, in spite of public declarations to the contrary, probably won't." He's declared himself the interim leader of UKIP. Can it survive without him? It's dangerous for a party to be so embodied by one person and with no obvious succession strategy.

"Does it actually need to survive now? How will it attract voters? It has achieved it's goal. It really needs a new name and a new purpose." I don't think it does. I'd like it to cease to exist, personally, because I don't want the Conservative party to swing to the right in an attempt to neutralise them. Look where trying to neutralise the UKIP threat has got us so far.

"Diane stepped down as a leader, ukip is a joke and noone want to be responsible for brexit lol." The Prime Minister and the government are responsible for Brexit now.

"Diane stepped down as a leader, ukip is a joke and noone want to be responsible for brexit lol. The Prime Minister and the government are responsible for Brexit now. " Yes, so they have to pick up the peaces for the economy now, which shows why ukip can never be a leader lol.

"Nigel Farage = uk PM Donald Trump = us President It is like a comedy sketch show, only the joke is on us all hahahahaha " Then don't vote them in; isn't is as simple as that? Or are the Brainiacs suggesting that they are the minority and the huddled masses who vote them in are complete idjits?
Reply privately | Reply in forum | Reply +quote |
"Ok, lots of people take the piss out of Farage, and personally I don't think I could spend more than 5 minutes with him. But at the same time, he ran a virtual one-man party and forced a referendum that delivered the result he wanted. T coated, yellow cord wearing twat maybe, but achieved his aim." Parties such as these (LibDems?) might never succeed in forming a single party government but they sure do keep the other two mainstream parties on their toes
