So, Juncker has now proposed the creation of a European defence fund (or in other words a European army?).

I wonder how much that would have cost us?

The man and his mates will never learn

I commented on Juncker's 'State of the Union' speech in 'Brexit Britain' Thread.

The fact they have such a speech says more about the political project than anything else. They really do think its a United State of Europe and have done for years. Its why they pull power away from Sovereign Governments to the unelected mob in Brussels.

read what Juncker also says about the Uk and Freedom of Movement or we don't get access to the Single market. The man is deluded and seems to forget the WTO has rules on that stuff.

And then we finally get proof of what us Brexiters have been saying for years and been called liars by the Remoaners for doing so: They will have a European Army. If it wasn't so tragic it would be an interesting concept of people being asked to die for a non existent country and people commanded to do so by people they do not know or respect or voted for....

I don't know; but suspect their could be a clash or representation between an EU army and UN peacekeeping force, especially when it comes to UK & USA being outside of EU (after article 50)

I'm not trying to be difficult but I can't see how it's any different to all the national armies that already exist. The UN doesn't actually have any troops itself. It just pays other people's troops to 'fight' for it. Thats if you define 'fight' as raping the local population and running away bravely when fired upon.

Many Remainers said during the referendum campaign that talk of an EU defence force or army or whatever you want to call it was nonsense and it would never happen. Just goes to show how much they know, only a couple of months after the referendum and Juncker is starting to reveal the EU plans on this.

I agree fully that Juncker is deluded, it seems the arrogant Eurocrats in Brussels have not learned a single thing from Britain's decision to leave. Still pressing on with ever closer political union and now this EU army nonsense, it will just turn more people in EU member states against the EU and Juncker and Co seem to be in complete denial about the growing Euroskeptic movement on the European continent.

Well Nigel Farage has been talking about this and exposing this for years. When he appeared on the live televised head to head debates against Nick Clegg a few years ago around the time of the European MEP elections Farage talked about the EU plans for an EU army then and Nick Clegg made Farage out to be some sort of crackpot for even suggesting it. Now Farage is being vindicated and Clegg is being exposed for the lying little weasel that he is.

Sometimes you really surprise me. You talk even more stupidity than I thought you could.

Listen up and take notes:

Yes we already have interoperability with most major nations like Germany, the USA and France but command is by the individual countries on an operation by operation basis. Training together to work better together and mutually improve is NOT the same as handing over command of 3 Para to Mr Bloody Juncker!!

The EU has had a plan for CONTROL of member states forces for years. Its just they couldn't reveal them because the UK would say quite rightly 'Yeah Right sod off!'. Now we have voted to leave out pops the plan.

No it will not mean a setup as you so childishly (and deliberately) lay out. It will mean Divisions of Member States own forces operating under the command and control structure of the EU. The EU will not pay for those Forces because it wants the power but not the costs.

Germany will never agree given their Constitutional arrangements and given they are now the biggest contributor to the EU by miles it won't take much for them to say 'Shove the EU up yer arse!'. Especially if Mr Guy Verhofstadt the EU Brexit negotiator plays silly beggars with the UK and hits us with Tariffs and blocks us from the Single Market as he has indicated which we will then slap back on them saying bye bye German cars.

Here is a Brier Score bit of fun: The EU will keep its communal head up its political arse and within 5 years all of the major contributing States will have triggered Article 50. That is Germany, France and Holland.

Oh no he doesn't. High politics is matters vital to the survival of states (e.g war) and low politics is about the other shit like economics and society. Give me some examples where the EU has ever made the blindest bit of difference in high politics?

Iraq and Afghanistan - nope

Nuclear nonproliferation - nope

Kosovo - nope

Falkland Islands - nope

Need I go on?

There's the US, China and Russia as states that matter. NATO matters, the UN is a distant 5th sat in the hall with the other states that have nuclear weapons and everyone else is sat in another building waiting to be told what will happen to it.

Fair enough, G20 is an oxymoron to me. There are only 15 countries in the world that even have an economy over $1 trillion. So the idea that there are even 20 countries that really matter strikes me as odd. Well maybe in low politics, they can, but in the arena of high politics very little has changed since WW2 ended.

As a proxy measure, we travel to China a fair bit and I like to judge the importance of things but the questions I get asked about the west.

So I've been asked about American foreign policy, NATO, North Korean nukes, even the UK benefits system.

I can honestly say that nobody in China has even asked me anything about the EU until we decided to leave it and that lasted about a week.

Exactly my thoughts, it's a pipe dream to increase his personal power, rather than a legitimate project based on logic. Not really newsworthy in my humble opinion.

It may have been a good idea back in the 1960's but the world has moved on a fair old bit since then. If the EU had stayed as a simple free trade agreement (which is what we joined and signed upto) then it could have been a good thing. However as soon as it went down this ever closer political union route that is where it all went wrong, centralisation of power in Brussels, taking sovereignty away from countries, making laws for other countries, imposing immigration policy on other countries, the doomed single currency and now this EU army nonsense. It's actually the EU now which is ramping up tension between countries in Europe, with it's misguided policies on migration (Shengen and free movement of people) and it is also destabilising and causing conflict in other countries on its borders with its expansionist agenda (Ukraine/Russia conflict). Even worse is that the EU elites in Brussels and the likes of Juncker can't seem to acknowledge it is happening and they seem oblivious to it, refuse to reform the EU in any real or meaningful way to change the direction it is heading in (and the current direction will lead to the collapse of the EU altogether).

Ah that old chestnut. Write this phrase down and read it daily "i will not confuse correlation with causation".

1. There's no consensus that interdependence leads to more peace anyway. It's just intuitive logic not based on facts.

2. The degree of european interdependence was increasing long before the EU and even before WW2, but clearly did not stop it.

3. There's significantly more evidence that 2 democracies are very unlikely to fight each other. They'll happily fight a non-democracy but that's outside the point. German democracy got hijacked by a teetotal, militant vegan before WW2.

Exposing what? An idea in the head of an idiot (Juncker). It has absolutely no feasibility whatsoever. Juncker is from a country that most people wouldn't know existed if it weren't for football fixtures. He has no idea how high politics works and isn't even a player in it.

Juncker is exactly as you describe but sadly you are wrong in one respect. He DOES play on the big stage with the big boys thanks to the EU. There are 4 others who people will never have heard of as well ...

Excellent points and yes the EU is actually an irrelevance as I was trying to say but I was mainly thinking of how they sit at the WTO and the G20 'with the big boys'."

So it seems as though no one (apart from Horny As) is able to describe exactly what a European army, that they are so afraid of, would actually look like.

Juncker is just one of 5 EU presidents (can you name the other 4?) And I'm guessing the other 4 more sober presidents will be in full agreement with Juncker otherwise he would not have said what he did about an EU army in his state of the union speech the other day.

How can anyone think that the EU should carry on any longer?

An EU defence fund? Where do these people think these 'funds' come from?

Your Spanish builder gets in from work and says to his 2 unemployed kids 'you know what? What we need now is for more of my taxes to go towards a defence project dreamed up by some wonderful people in Brussels who know what we need in our lives and what is best for us. Now what's for dinner, Pan Catalan again or patatas?'

NOT!

Shit like this can only be dreamed up by shithead egomaniacs d*unk on power and position with no concept of peoples needs and problems and whose only 'talents' involve spending and wasting other peoples money.

The end of the EU can't come soon enough and I would wager it won't even exist within the next 3 years, all being well

There have always been wars between European countries but none that lasted centuries. The question was "Which European countries have been at war for centuries" meaning not for 4 years like world one or 6 tears like WW2 but for over a hundred years.

That is the whole point! There were wars between the countries, and that stopped! That's not something that I was willing to throw away, but sadly, it was something you were willing to throw away. "

Yes but they did,nt last a HUNDRED years nobody wants war and if think that the UK leaving the EU is going to start a war you really do need to get a grip.

"So it seems as though no one (apart from Horny As) is able to describe exactly what a European army, that they are so afraid of, would actually look like.

What do you think it will look like? And what European countries where at war with each other for centuries?

I don't think that there will ever be such a thing as a "Euro Army".

Its not my job to teach you about the wars of Europe, I suggest you read a history book if you want to find out which countries have been at war with each other.

But it is my job. I will ask again which European countries have been at war for centuries?

Are you trying to say that there has been peace between the major European countries for centuries? No wars? For centuries?

Nothing of the kind where did I say that There you go playing with words again. Same as you played with the paragraph of dribble about European countries being at war for centuries with each other pre EU. You talk utter nonsense on an daily basis on here carry on it is comedy

So you admit that there have been wars between the major countries of Europe for centuries then?

You need to read the post again it says," Which European countries have been at war for centuries?"

Lets just take the UK and/or England then. Were we at war with another European country in the 20th Century? The 19th Century? The 18th Century? The 17th Century?

But not for a century only one war was called The Hundred Years War

Only it didn't stop did it. You seem to have forgotten about the war in Kosovo/Serbia in the 1990's, a war in Europe while the EU was in existence. Then when the EU did get involved there they ballsed it up and Nato and the UN had to come in and clear up the mess. Then there was the Ukraine/Russia conflict which the EU had a hand in starting.

So you've just listed 4 countries who were not members who were using war to solve their problems. Please can you list all of the EU member states that have gone to war with other member states?

Moving the goal posts again, seems to be a recurring habit of yours when someone proves you wrong. You said that the EU had stopped war in Europe, and it clearly hasn't from the examples I gave.

I haven't moved the goal posts at all. I said about joining their economies together so as to make war impossible. That is clearly talking about member states of the EU and it's predecessors. You want to unpick those tied economies, which is a backward step, and a step away from peace.

And if there was going to be a war as a result of Brexit, would you want to stay in the EU to avoid it? [a purely hypothetical scenario]

"It wont happen the EU is going bankrupt"

The deluded EU elites were meeting today to discuss Brexit. Did you see what looked like a hungover Jean Claude Juncker spouting crap on the news? They went for a lunch time cruise on the river Danube, the moronic Europhiles couldn't even get that right and they had to cut the trip short because of low water levels? Lol.
