The US and russia have announced a plan to bring about a ceasefire in syria, starting on monday. Air strikes on rebel-held areas of syria reportedly kill at least 82 people hours after the US and Russia announce plans for a truce.

Do you reckon russia is playing mind games or will it stick to it, what is your views?

Why is it they always take days to call a ceasefire whe they could just say STOP as of right now.

Its not as if they have to send runnwers to every outpost just broadcast it openly to all of thier forces.

Not sure whether it is just a case of Russia 'sticking to it' but also whether Russia can control the Syrian government, and make them abide by a ceasefire. Not sure if they can as there are many battle fronts in many different parts of the country with powerful army commanders able to affect the situation on the ground.

When you have so many groups of fighters under low level commanders throughout such an area it takes time for orders to filter down.

If a ceasefire is to be taken seriously you need to have enough time for it to come into effect without your own side inadvertently breaking it because they didn't know about it.

Unfortunately it's not as simple as flicking a switch.

True in thinking more about it I would not trust Assad further than I could spit a rat as he would no doubt use it as a chance to gain some sort of advantage.

As he has shown in the past people on the ground and civilians meen nothing to him as he is determind to stay in power at all costs even paying Putin large sums of money to support him instead of using it for his own people.

Well let's see.... You've got Russia backing Syria who's got backing from the Lebanese and the Iranians and the Palestinians and some Arab states but then some of them won't back the Lebanese or the Iranians... you've got the yanks supporting the free Syrian army and there 11 affiliates, you've got the French bombing isis targets, Turks supporting Turkmen but not the klp, alqaeda, isis, hamza, Syrian front, Levant front, mujahadeen and about 14 other opposing forces.... And you've got to get everybody to agree to some ceasefire time to get aid in but.... It's a fucking minefield and quite frankly I'm surprised they've managed to get this far
