Theresa had a meeting with merkel in berlin and she told her that the UK will not begin official negotiations on leaving the EU this year.

Here is abit of the dialogue:

But she insisted the UK would not "walk away" from europe and wanted to retain the "closest economic links".

Merkel said the two sides desired to get the "best result for Britain" but urged more clarity on timing.

I think she wont trigger article 50 either after a year or 2, cos she want to listen to all the views and also what scotland/irelands thinks of it.

What is your thoughts?

nah I think she will have too if you think business wise there will be a lot of businesses waiting to see the impact of brexit before they make future investments in Britain and Europe holding back on article 50 will just hurt the private sectors in both economies

nah I think she will have too if you think business wise there will be a lot of businesses waiting to see the impact of brexit before they make future investments in Britain and Europe holding back on article 50 will just hurt the private sectors in both economies "

Perhaps she's waiting for legal challenges as to how article 50 is triggered before she goes ahead .plus doing a deal with Scotland first ..

She does not have to be credible as the Labour party is a complete mess,there is no opposition to speak of

Certainly at the moment. But that won't always be the case.

She has been pretty ruthless and up front so far. Early days but I have faith.

Opposition is healthy in a democracy.

But you seem to be especially one sided.

There are positives and negatives to all decisions.

I'm sure there would have been expressions of outrage if the vote went the other way. But you can't please everyone.

Wrong yet again, being wrong seems to be a habit of yours on here. If Theresa May fails to deliver a brexit she will face a revolt from 17 and a half million people who voted leave, and it would lead to another rise in ukip which the conservative party really wants to avoid happening at all costs. It was because of the threat from ukip that Cameron called a referendum in the first place.

Chris Greyling who was one of the key cabinet figures in the vote Leave campaign was the main early backer for Theresa May to be Prime Minister. She must have given him firm and clear assurance that she would deliver brexit in return for his support in her leadership battle.

Wrong as usual she will be popular with a majority of the 15 mill ..many of the 17 mil would never vote tory so upset them or not they ain't voting tory even if labour dont pull it together ...sure ukip will rise some as all the redundant mep's will be looking to bum a job from somewhere ..but since they don't turn up for work it wont cause the tories any worries ...

My record of predictions about future events has proven to be much more accurate than yours on here. I'm happy to let the passage of time prove who is right about this. I will be here to say I told you so when Theresa May activates article 50 and Britain leaves the EU.

She understands that a failure to deliver brexit according to the expectations of the majority, without any backsliding, will rip the country apart, not to mention her own party.

Already, we are seeing things settle down and countries lining up to make new trade arrangements with one of the largest economies and markets in the world.

Whatever politicians do, commerce will continue to do business. The default position, a WTO tariff rate of about 4%, is hardly a crushing burden.

Moreover, Britain has a stronger hand than the EU in the upcoming negotiations. The desk-jockeys in Brussels and some of the more ludicrous Europhile numpties such as Verhoefstadt may bluster as much as they like, but it will be the demands of the French food & drink sector plus the German manufacturing giants which will oblige common sense and mutual interests to overcome resentful and empty rhetoric.

The timing of article 50 is in the politicians hands but it can't be delayed indefinitely because going back on the mandate would be political suicide, cause a surge in support for UKIP as a previous poster stated and if brexit doesn't happen then it makes a mockery of voting and democracy as a whole whether you voted in or out.
