Wait does this show yet another Brexit lie that turkey were due to be part of the EU and we'd be flooded by them?

Mind you the flooding could still happen" if they want political asylum

Its all over, 60 dead from "act of treason"

.

The AFP news agency is reporting that 754 members of Turkish armed forces have been arrested for involvement in the coup, citing Turkey's state-run Anatolia news agency.

.

It quoted a Turkish official saying that 29 colonels and five generals had been removed from their posts

.

Who needs to watch the movies its here for real, best get them in as EU members before it gets worse

Urdogan leads an Islamist party.

The military, as set up under the secular constitution, which Attaturk set up after the Ottoman Empire collapsed, are sworn to uphold secularism.

Urdogan has eroded more and more freedoms. Basically shut down the free press etc and gradually islamifying the country. He has also been strengthening presidential powers, some fearing he wishes to be president for life.

I fear Turkey will now become very much more Islamified as Urdogan will feel empowered by this. Bad times!!!

Certainly not by international law. It is not recognized by the UN.

A world of my own

Im on holiday in Turkey at the moment. The hotel masseur is ex NATO soldier. He and some of his friend's served in Iraq.

The panic in the hotel last night and the fear in the eyes of some was awful.

We are a few hundred miles away from the trouble but its still unsettling.

The world is so small. There is more than enough for everyone but the greedy and power hungry play with lives of innocent people.

I hate the world is so full of hate.

As I've posted elsewhere.

The coup was a minority not being happy with the result of a democratic voting process and wanting the change the result.

How barbaric and idiotic are these people to question democracy? Glad it would never happen in the UK

Edinburgh

Erdogan is a democrat, only in the way that Hitler was a democrat. He cynically uses democracy to gain and retain power, but pays lip service to democratic principles. Prepare for a fascist state in the near future.

Erdogan, a messianic psychopath, is intent on changing the constitution to his own power-hungry ends, to rule forever and to undermine Ataturk's secular state, in favour of islamification.

The coup leaders made one crucial mistake - not eliminating the tyrant.

Well the purges have started - 300 to go from the judiciary, say goodbye to anything resembling a free press.

The attempted coup has played directly in to his hands - funny how so many of the people who turned out at 2 am were big beefy males, sporting flags and red tabards, almost like they were prepared for it

Glasgow.

Now 7,500 police, 10,200 teachers and 3,000 military personnel have been "suspended".

Talk of the return of the Death Penalty (there goes any chance of EU entry)

For a coup attempt, it's really working out well for the current Turkish leader.

You violate a sovereign airspace with a military plane and you are likely to get yourself shot down. We would do the same in the UK, or on any of our air policing missions.
