For the first time in my life I have been reading comments posted on Mail Online stories. I can't believe that Mail staff don't moderate responses. Some responses.... Astonishing.

I personally think that 'paper' encourages those responses.

Not that i've looked for over a year but that's the vibe i got when i did look.

My daily source of amusement. Sometimes I don't read the story just straight to the comments as I just know...and they never disappoint!

I don't read anything I'm not interested in and I'm not interested in the thoughts of either the daily mail or its readers

West Wales and Cardiff

I'm really torn.

I don't want to give the website even my insignificant couple of "clicks", but the comments section is comedy gold.

Same as all the people I know who would actually never entertain the Daily Mail but who are entertained by the sheer ridiculousness of the chat.

Which is presumably why the stats are massive.

Freedom of speech has limits

Limits are only set by ignorance and the ignorant.

Never ceases to amaze me how many people are scared of opions that differ to theirs.

I do not read the Daily Mail but have nothing against those who do.

It is nothing to do with free speech. It is about The mail having association with the people who leave the comments.

It is hard to be taken serious if all your mates are lunatics.

Untrue.

Not that I'm religious but Pope Francis has no doubt that there are limits. Swinging his arm to demonstrate, he made clear that if his friend insulted what was most dear to him - his mother, for example - that friend could expect a punch.

The concept of Free Speech is one thing whereas the bile spouted in the DM feedback is just unpleasant, or if it incites further violence or hatred.

Just think of that woman who suggested putting Jane Austin on a tenner.
