11 countries have already stated that they want post Brexit trade deals.

Iceland was the first country to officially offer a deal and Mexico although beaten by Iceland to the punch to be first, are the first country to have already drawn a free trade deal up.

Other countries include Australia, Canada, NZ, India and South Korea

Nice to see we'll be getting the best of the best. Fish from Iceland (although everyone's been banging on about getting our fishing waters back so that doesn't matter) and what from Mexico? Main exports are cars and the production plants there are owned by GM and BMW.

Mexico merely want to tenser for the wall between England and Scotland. They'll have experience of building one by then!

all this nonsense from the EU saying the trade deal is a 4 combined trade is nonsense, saying we cant get trade without free movement of people is utter nonsense, USA are doing trade right now without free movement of people.

Thats a good point. They can replace the £150m nett contribution the UK make every week. If not I'm sure the Italians are cash rich, or maybe Greece, if not Spain, or Luxemborg, maybe even the French will as they are renowned for their tolerance, I could go on but can't be arsed.

Well that is fantastic news if true, as that was my main reason for voting Leave. I hated the thought that TTIP was being pushed through and even more that most people were unaware of what it was and how damaging it would have been, especially for the NHS.

Reality has very little to do with politics, thats the civil servants job.. every negotiation has starting points and they often have very little to do with the end result. Brussels is well known for comprises and this situation is no different.

I agree that every negotiation has starting points and they are no where near the end point. This negotiation won't be any different. UK will ask for free trade without free movement and the end point won't be anywhere near that. There is no way the EU will allow that to happen because if it does then the EU, as we know it, will be finished.

Roundabouts & u-turns! It's the name of the game. I voted ukip last year. I did so to send a message and that message was backed up by 4,000,000 others. The shock wave ran straight to the heart of the Tory party and the end result happened last Thursday. I got what I wanted.. next time I vote will be tory. Politics is a curooms game

If you're going to make an economic argument to leave, then contextualize it using a touchstone like the nhs, then use it as a photo op background, then repeat it after it's been debunked, then continue to use it as a photo op background, then row back on it, then go all politicians eh lolbanter, then how gullible do leave consider their voters?

Of course they all want trade agreements, that's the nature of business!.

The facts of the matter are.... We currently send out of the country about 10 billon pounds a month in excess imports to exports!.

This money then comes back as "foreign investment" to buy up national infrastructure, roads, rail, airports, electric, water, health... To then make a profit of you again.

No country can do this continually without problems.

We need to get back to making things and selling them to other country's, this will NOT be easy and much pain will be had for lots of us!.

Point 1. The EU and particularly the Eurozone has been dead in the water for years. But no-one would admit it.

Point 2. Free movement and the current EU set up only came about at the Maastricht a Treaty....signed by the great Eurofile..... Thatcher (yet many seem to think she was anti Europe?) fooled you all didn't she!

A good starting point would be for people to realise that everyone needs to be better educated and possess more skills in order that the country can make the high quality products that can be sold and exported.

The days of mass employment of unskilled people are gone from these shores. The future is better education and skills.

The £350million quote did not come from Farage, it came from the Tory party leave campaign, not Farage. It was subsequently withdrawn, and put down as a mistake made by the Tory leave campaign. Farage when asked gave this explanation and said it was a mistake. If I were a conspiracy theorist I might suggest it was a deliberate attempt to scupper the Brexit campaign.

The problem Farage has now is where does he go from here? Soon to be an ex MEP his mission is almost complete

He could get involved in actually trying to get us on track for trading with the EU again, rather than trying to burn bridges. Or you know, go help the working class people he says he represents.

On another note, if we o have to take free movement of labour, I imagine UKIP will take that up as their next cause - or to get proportional representation through so they can translate support to parliament more.

A lot of people who wanted to remain wanted a political party in the European parliament which would actually campaign for EU reform like a lot of people across europe - optimistic like.

However, beyond voting them in and out every few years, we can't really hold our own politicians to account. Eg, beyond an opposition leader trying to repeal policies/hold them to account, if a party promises to do or not to do something, they can easily g back on it without anything beyond pissing the public of.

Funnily enough, MEPs often held one another to account and the EU commissioners and departments.

So basically it was just like our own government, just pan-European and than evn less people paid attention to the fact that they could vote MEP's in an out.

The trade agreements have to be in line with EU regulations, any agreements in place under EU regulations will have to be renegotiated once we leave. India do not have a trade agreement with Europe and have almost given up hope of getting one.

Many in the remain campaign say we are dead in the water once we leave. Being invited to join the European free trade agreement suggests otherwise.

Iceland was the first country to officially offer a deal and Mexico although beaten by Iceland to the punch to be first, are the first country to have already drawn a free trade deal up.

Other countries include Australia, Canada, NZ, India and South Korea

When people start working out why you can't just simply swap one set of international markets for another, they may start to realise why voting Leave was the most foolish thing they've ever done.

We haven't Left yet in case you hadn't noticed all the markets did was react to an opinion the real damage comes when we actually still part of EU so of course markets stabilise ..were chugging along because nothing has changed yet ..part of the EU part of the prosperity its only when we go it alone will the situation change ..when the markets get a hint ow which way the UK will jump ..

And the pound spiked the day before when speculators expected a remain win. The pound is where it is and will eventually end up where it should be. Why are you so obsessed with it? The markets are up, why are you all obsessed with saying they are on the way down? Is there some kind of social media brain washing going on that takes people with adequate intelligence and turns them into zombie clones?

What ever trade agreements that are in place now will need to be renegotiated.

Obama saying we go to the back of the queue was obviously a speech written by a British speech writer for the remain camp. Firstly, USA doesn't use the word queue, they say line. Secondly, he is the outgoing president and will be gone before any negotiations even start.

TTIP which was due to be finalised by Christmas has now been blown out of the water. Another round of negotiations will have to be written up. We now go to the front of the queue because trade with us is more important.

Forgive me for skipping a long Thread but can I remind everyone we already HAVE Bilateral Trade deals with every country we trade with. Its not having a trade deal as the Remainers, BBC and the Guardian drone on about. Its the Tariffs. Sadly we are shackled by the EU and its protectionist stance against countries outside the EU and consequently we have to charge high tariff on imports. 10% on US imported goods for example but despite that the USA is still our biggest export market.

What people like Mexico and Australia etc are now asking for is Free Trade Agreements which have always increased trade between countries, which adds to GDP whether its Imports or Exports. The USA will be along soon and we will allow them to bypass the queue.

We trade a surplus on non-EU goods and services. We trade a nett deficit of £77 Bn on goods to the EU but trade a surplus on services. But we still lose £61 Bn a year trading with the EU. And we pay for the privilege.... !!

It is a total no brainer that we dump the politically driven EU Monstrosity and start going back to what we have always been. A great global mercantile trading nation.

Oh and I bet the Remainers on here didn't even know the 'Single Market' in Services (where we are the world leader) hasn't even been completed. It doesn't exist.... So we use an EU 'passport'.

Well I stand corrected. But given Mexico goods are charged at duties between 0% and 140% its not the sort of agreement I had in mind. 'Free Trade' can mean people can move goods unhindered but there may be a price to pay. And we trade on that basis now all over the world.

not sure what you mean by project Rolex they are only for telling the time and with interest rates about to half (0.5% down to 0.25%)it may be a good time to continue with property investments, especially with the chance of many remain voters relocating to Scotland as well as companies relocating to Edinburgh (seems house prises may rise with the demand).

Staying in the EU while the rest of the UK sails merrily into the socio-political mid-Atlantic would work very well for Scotland. You can keep the foreign direct investment attracted by EU membership as an English speaking gateway to the EU and drain FDI away from industry south of the border where we used to be that gateway. Then of course Edinburgh could use its position in the EU make a move to replace London as a hub in the financial services market whilst the people down south wait for a trade deal in 5-10 years time that brings them somewhere near to where they were before Brexit, just not quite as good and quite a bit more expensive and with less control.

Was on BBC news, sky news and channel 4 news yesterday. Spain are shit scared Catalonia will go for independence, they don't want to give any encouragement what so ever, so they said they will do everything in their power to stop Scotland joining the EU.

The only reason the EU is trying to put free movement of people as a red line for talks is because they need us to take some of the load, and if we get a deal without free movement, then the rest of the EU will want a referendum.

I do agree that Germany would not put 1 million jobs at risk just to shut out the UK but I do think that we all need each other to trade with but not under the EU rules

If it was what other countries have is that You have a sponser offering you work then you gain entry to work I don't see a problem with that system.

It's the come one come all even when you don't have a job to go to or the means to live that I do not agree with.

Premature !!!!! the risk to the economy is from brexit we havnt left yet are you that naive to believe the opinion of a nation will cause financial colapse its the action of leaving that could cause collapse. Well percentages are always misleading especially when you don't disclose the 'percentage of what' accurately.

The reality, and what will lead the trade negotiations, is that we traded an annual £77 Billion deficit on goods with the EU (last figures I could find). We traded a surplus on Services which reduced our overall deficit to £61 Billion. Interesting that there isn't actually a 'Single Market' in Services yet.. But moving swiftly on: So whatever Tariffs or duties the EU imposes on the UK we will return the favour. Numerically that means (at say 10%) we end up with a £6 Bn a year bonus. Now it isn't that simple as prices on those Imported EU goods will rise and therefore demand will reduce but being outside the EU we could funnel the duties received from Imports into reducing the costs of Exports and making us 'Duty Neutral' on Exports.

As is so often repeated the EU (and particularly the Germans) needs the UK marketplace more than the UK now needs the EU marketplace. The rest of the world beckons, is already after our trade and is a lot bigger and growing faster than the EU. Which just got considerably smaller with a higher per capita unemployment rate now we have left....

The reality is that if the Uk imposes an average 10% duty on imports that duty is paid by you and me. Also it's not 10% of our balance of trade it's 10% of our entire eu import bill. That's one tenth of about 220 billion i.e. A 22 billion pounds a year tax on uk consumers.

That is one aspect of the Brexit tax.

It makes no sense to nett off import duties paid by other countries. They simply go into the treasuries of those countries. The nett effect of duties is to increase everyone's taxes here and abroad.

That's £22 bn a year we as a nation would be worse off because we as individuals end up paying for the tariffs. Don't forget that we'll pay another 20% vat on that too.

Remember to say thanks for the Brexit tax as you pay for it at a rate of at least £405 million per week.

You are correct in that import duties will raise prices here on imports from the EU BUT if we go free trade with the rest of the world that will lower prices on goods from there, without doing some serious research I dont know which products from the EU we can replace with similar from around the world and of course our government could ust the import duty to reduce taxes in ways that would help the less well off IE remove VAT on energy for low volume users that would be an instant 5% saving and maybe use the money raised to add funds to the NHS, And perhaps higher prices on german top of the range cars etc would help uk producers and increase jobs here and a lower pound will help exporters too. We are leaving so we can go two ways moan and complain and give in or use it as a huge opportunity.Remember the UK has created more jobs in the last 7 years than the whole of the EU put together, just imagine what we can do now we are free of them

I was pointing out that the earlier post claiming we'd make 6 billion a year out of duties on the trade differential is misleading and based in a misunderstanding of who pays the tax I.e you and I.

If we raise import duties against the eu we have to raise them for the rest of the world too - thats the wto rules - until ftas are negotiated which will take years.

Then of course we have to factor in the devaluation of sterling on our global imports. A 5% fall on the value if the pound is worth another £20 bn a year we have to pay for imports wherever they come from and whatever the duty rate is . Also it doesn't matter if devaluation stimulates our exports we still ens up paying more out for imports and they are much higher value than our exports.

Add another £400 million a week to that brexit tax and say thanks to ukip

Someone as usual just gave the Import side of the Duty argument. Its like there was no export duty revenue for the UK... Tut.

In April 2016 Germany, Holland and Switzerland exported more to us than any other country except the USA. The difference being the USA imported some 30% more from the UK than they exported. We make a profit out of the USA. And yes I do know Switzerland isn't IN the EU but it will be affected by EU rules on trade. I just make the point that those three countries exported £11.4 Bn to the UK. they bought £4.8 Bn. So in one month for 3 countries a 10% common duty will raise £1.14 Billion and cost us £0.48 Bn. A Nett profit for the UK Treasury of some £0.7 Bn.

And of course someone also didn't read my comments in his rush to put out the 'Brexit Tax' soundbite as I said a) its not that simple, b) the rest of the world is bigger than the now depleted EU and c) we could use the all of the duty revenue from imports (not just the profit) to make our exports 'duty neutral' and remain competitive. If people in the UK still want to buy EU goods possibly 10% dearer (although as the Duty is levied on CIF costs the retail price is not 10% higher) then they have that choice as it is their money. No one forces anyone to buy a BMW. But they may just find the Range Rover is a better choice now.

The WTO rates are the maximum that can be charged and are the default position so when we leave they are what we will pay on imports and what the EU will pay on their imports from us, as far as I know the EU currently has no general goods trade deal with the usa despite trying to sort one for best part of 20 years so our situation with them will stay the same until we do a deal with them, we cant charge more than the standard rates to any one.The FACTS are that if the pound drops against the Euro it will make our exports cheaper their imports to us dearer which makes life easier for our exporters and manufacturers at home and harder for the EU ones tariffs will add costs to both sides so if the eu want to take forever it will hit them harder as they sell more and if we drop charges by doing deals with other countries that will hit the eu if we replace their products with those from around the world without tariffs.I am not saying that it will be all to our benefit but the fact is the EU have more to lose than us
