Frightening comment I overheard today...a group of teens talking very passionately about the EU...

I quote:

Teen 1) "We're fucked now aren't we...with that Europe thing, proper fucked our futures up"

Teen 2) "yeah I know what's that about"

Teen 1) "summat do with us not being able to go abroad or work there and we're all gonna be skint..it's all over Facebook, proper scary"

And these are the teens that accuse us of fucking up their future!!!... majority don't even know what EU fucking stands for!!!

The world moves in masses and unfortunately social media is doing a great job of feeding the masses this bullshit and fear..

They're not stupid. They just haven't been around long enough to develop the cynicism required to detect and cope with lying, corrupt politicians.

I have wide ranging, in depth, intelligent discussions with my Son and sometimes I could cry as I know that sooner or later his well intentioned, noble ideals will be crushed by a nest feathering, snake oil salesman or woman.

My 14 yr old (doesn't have a FB account or a mobile phone) made many valid comments & even my 9 yr old knew what the vote was about. They have been discussing it in school.

This is not correct. Three of my children have taken GCSE history and one has done A level history. It is a much sought after A level for going to university as it teaches 'children' to consider the source and many arguments and evidence ... they study different themes and are learning how to think and evaluate. All three of my teens have a very good grasp of the EU issues, although the one who could vote was in the USA at the time, and he is worried and disturbed and disgusted about what is happening there as well as here .... London teens are certainly educated and have a grasp on the real world.

Not sure you have any grounds to criticise those us who live and work in the UK. After all you lot baled out and moved abroad... All we see from you in here in Thread after Thread is abusive, snide, shit, sarccy comments about how shit the UK is. So become Spanish or Portuguese or whatever. We really won't miss you ...

And as for students after 2018 I guess they will have to do what I had to do. Spend 10 minutes in a Consulate and get a visa... how difficult is that?

Its true .Many of the younger generation change diction and language, accent etc depending on who they are talking to in order to fit in ... as do we. After all, how many of us talk to our friends or family in the tone we talk here, or at work ,,, it all depends on the audience and what they can understand, surely

"The problem with these kids is we no longer educate them properly in schools.

They have no education in History it is dicusting.

When they say they will not be able to travel shows how stupid and badly educated they are.

In or out if EU I will still have my holiday, will still be able to travel in bankrupt Europe

They do history. after brexit nobody knows If UK students will be able to travel.around Europe for extended periods of time as they do at the moment supporting themselves working in different EU countries ...the Madrid embassy issued a statement explaining our rights only up to 2018 ..after then its not even know if UK residents will ne able to stay and work here ..so yes the young are right to express there concerns

Spend 10 minutes in a Consulate and get a visa... how difficult

is that?"

If you don't like what I say dont read ..I'm not surprised by you're stupidity traveling across Europe to work as you go will not be as easy ..just read visa regulations for the many nations in the EU...

"Kids are stupid. Who knew?

No they aren't. They are genuinely scared for their future. They need reassurance.

True - but they're not going to get that from people who really should know better spreading panic on social media. that's how they communicate so we need to engage them that way., they don't all watch news at ten. that's how they communicate - you make it sound like a wildlife documentary haha

The younger of the species talk in 'slang' to distinguish themselves from the older generations of the tribe. Little do they know it will be a source of great embarrassment to them later in life...

Its true .Many of the younger generation change diction and language, accent etc depending on who they are talking to in order to fit in ... as do we. After all, how many of us talk to our friends or family in the tone we talk here, or at work ,,, it all depends on the audience and what they can understand, surely "

When I was in my teens I once left the house wearing a bandana

I'm so glad there's no photographic evidence

I would have liked them to have voted younger, like from 16 in the previous Scottish vote.

We're all different but their views are equally valid. I've not come across any 'stupid' teenage viewpoints on this. I've been fortunate to have opportunities that will potentially be closed for them, at a time when they probably deserve them more.

With a very weak pound They said that when we did not join the Euro, the pound will be stronger than ever against the pathetic Euro 2 years from now whooppee"

Not guaranteed in any sense. It is likely, that after article 50 is invoked that we will see another drop in the value of the pound, it is also likely to see a drop once all negotiations have been completed and the "divorce" is final by legal declaration. Will there be a rise in between? It's possible but how this will affect our economy in the long term is impossible to tell at this stage.

"Most teenagers are smarter than this. They have access to way more information and are more politically aware than I was as a teen.

There referendum result could have been different if 16-18 year olds could vote.

I think the voting age should be 18, but I don't know why it was lowered for Scotland's referendum."

because it would be affecting thier future and also a bit germandering by the snp

This weekend, many groups of youngsters, lots of the same questions

"Did you vote mr taxi man?"

"Yes i did"

"What did you vote, in or out?"

"I voted out"

"Yaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy"

"I voted out too"

"Oh my god, so did i"

"And me, i voted out as well"

On several occasions ibiza fears were mentioned and obviously the inevitable, what time did you start/finish, been busy questions followed.

I saw in a pub in winchester last night with a few old army pals when we heard a group of youngsters on about "old people should leave politics to the young" one actually said " so what if they fight in the war , if they didn't die then then they won't have long left anyway".

It wasn't just what they said I heard distasteful it was the fact that they were what seemed intelligent , middle class and .... Dangerously serious.

we hear this stat about 70% of young people voted to stay and how the old have screwed them...

well actually only c. 40% of the young voted, so that means actually only 28% voted to stay - if they were that worried or thought it was that important more of them should have got of their backsides and gone and voted!

Hah! Feeble? Pull your head out of your own arse will you!!

All I'm doing is saying what I was like when I was younger. I was ignorant to politics because my social circle and I were not in the slightest bit interested. We were concerned with getting out and socialising/drinking or playing sport and if we were lucky getting a girlfriend! Definitely not politics.
