Parts of Scotland displaying pump prices £2.38 a litre for diesel.

Plymouth to Exeter and back £20.

Ridiculously expensive for everyone.

Can Trump make peace with Iran or should we accelerate the ZEM ?

Trump is making a personal fortune so doubt he's bothered.

He certainly doesn't give a shit about Americans do why would he be bothered us?

If the uk government had any real powers, they’d somehow make it cheaper, by removing duty and tax etc.

If nothing else, can they not stop motorway service stations charge more than the nearest local town?

Can they not stop the listing the cost as .9 of a litre?

I can’t pay £1.99.9 for anything!

That price doesn’t exist in any money I can hand over!

No. Motorway service stations pay huge amounts of rent to get that prime space, and they have to provide free water and toilet facilities. They need to get their money back somehow.

Well they could, they are meant to be in charge. They could do what other countries leaders do and take control of stuff that's important , but they won't, because they are rubbish.

They just like to argue with each other and talk bollocks while the public sector and the private sector run the country anyway they please.

With the budget being almost upon us, they might surprise us, with some fuel tax cuts. Though tax revenues are essential for making our services better, they may perceive it as important to public morale and support. I'd hope they'll do that but it's anyone's guess

"So if the government do scrap vat and dutie on fule how would you segest they replace that income. Or are you expecting more cuts in service. "

Treasury collects roughly £31 billion from petrol/diesel through fuel duty and VAT.

For consumers (not businesses) that’s from income that has already been taxed.

"So if the government do scrap vat and dutie on fule how would you segest they replace that income. Or are yiu expecting more cuts in service. "

They don't have to completely scrap it, they could just lower it.

The fuel taxes are calculated as a percentage of the fuel cost, so the fact that fuel prices have recently risen means that the government is getting more tax from us.

But Burnham is spending money fast this might help plug the gap.

I would be happier if the money went in to the roads but that's just wishful thinking 🤔

It will go in to homeless first probably but that's a need as well..

Oooo controversial!

Strange how the far left see assassination attempts on people they don’t like as acceptable.

The Middle East has been in turmoil for decades. We are where we are partly because we’ve not ensured our own energy and fuel security and we’ve ignored various backward regimes because we like their oil.

This is on us as well, not just Trump.

I don’t think it’s acceptable to wish death on anyone, but it’s not controversial to accept them as sliding doors moments. If that bullet ends Trump, or of Farage’s plane crash ends differently, the world is a very different place

Man you were so close to hitting on the right answer without hitting on it

So let’s split top 4 and bottom 5 in two

Top 4…. Net diesel producers

Bottom 5 … Europe… diesel importers

Bottom 5 use to get a lot of diesel from Russia… before Ukraine and sanctions,

Then under pressure from us to get from them and Middle East instead

Then came war with Iran.. and blockade of paths for diesel out… so Europe became more reliant of Exported US diesel … about 30-35 percent of Europe needs comes from the US

So if US export ban happens.. Europe will be even more screwed

Which leaves us where we are now

Reliant on India for fule as the EU has closed mot of its reffing capacity due to cost. And before anyone questions this if there was a pump 5p above the normal pump price marked UK fule no nobody would use it. How now fills up with premium at +10p ??

What the hell is a gallon?

We haven't used them for years.

Ah, I am forgetting. They are something you get more miles from than a litre.

However, if we were to start using kilometres, which we were supposed to be doing back in the 70s, we might at least have been getting slightly more per litre than miles but not such eyewatering figures as we can get from electric gallons!

Kilometres per kilowatt hour is surely the terminolgy of the future. What with all car specs still dictated from Europe despite Brexit!

It's less about peace, it's more about there aren't the refinaries to make diesel and there will be on/off shortages for many years to come

Agreed. Diesel will be required for decades yet our useless government has made business conditions so difficult that more than half our refineries have closed recently, leaving us entirely dependent on imported diesel.

no, seven UK oil refineries closed during the 1980s, accounting for over half of the 12 closures between the early 1970s and 2022. two more closed in the 2010's and grangemouth announced that production would cease in 2023. that accounts for 10 of the 17 refinery closures since 1976.

I wouldn't have thought so, I can't see the price collapsing so quickly, there isn't enough production to flood the market.

1) no it isn’t

2) because obviously diesel is a worldwide commodity, there would be no incentive for them to flood the market, thus lowering the price and decreasing the profits … they would just turn it into other things such as jet fuel for example
