Half a million trees are to be planted in England over the next three years the Environment Secretary, Angela Eagle has announced.

She’s announced the Good Food Neighbourhoods Programme and, at the Labour Party conference, has said:

“During our years in opposition, Britain became a poorer, more divided country, a country that seemed only to work for vested interests.

“That’s why today I’m announcing our Good Food Neighbourhoods Programme. Initially, we’ll be supporting 45 communities, targeted at the areas with the highest levels of food inequality, backed by £10 million of investment, bringing fresh, affordable produce into neighbourhoods, creating community kitchens and supporting pensioners’ lunch clubs that tackle loneliness and hunger side by side.

“Because this is about more than what’s on someone’s plate; it’s about the ties that bind us together.”

£10M investment into 45 communities.

Is this a good policy? It appears so

Worthing

Healthy for the air...more trees the better. They also look good.

One of the reasons we have floods more often is that we have allowed the felling of trees on hillsides. This has meant that instead of the water going into the ground it comes straight down the hillsides into rivers, meaning they burst their banks more frequently.

It depends on what type of tree. Native trees yes, non native trees (sitka spruce) nope
