"Well I'm certainly not a labour supporter but think Burnham has learnt a lesson from when labour first took over. Instead of instantly talking the country down he at least is up beat which is a welcome change. Listening to the radio interviews of people in Manchester they point out that the success stories there did not come about due to his ideas. They were ideas from other people and parties that he used. Crucially he did not dismiss them simply for not being his own. One interviewer who was lib dem described Burnham as the rarest of labour members as he listens to other people's point of view without dismissing it outright. Unfortunately with the tax take already at its highest he seems keen to raise it even higher. It will be interesting to see what he does different while working to the same manifesto commitments " Same feelings. Guy shows a lot of positivity and optimism compared to the previous PMs which is a good thing. But he will he will he judged by his actions. It would be interesting to see how he goes about fixing the economic problems.

They would abolish inheritance tax and increase allowances.

"A Restore government? Whats their economic policy like?" "It’s going to be better than the last two governments." "Typical Restore comeback. No policies and no plan" Unlike all those Andy Burnham supporters that had full knowledge of exactly what his policies were before they forced out the old PM to make way for him?

"It's impossible for any governance structure to deliver all the things individuals desire or need all the time. . Nature tends towards diversity. Civilisation governance tends towards standardisation. . Those are opposing forces. . If civilisation was a car, governments are the engines and all we do is change the engine every couple of years. The bodywork stays the same. . If the bodywork/frame is flawed, then it doesn't matter what engine you put in the vehicle. . You are not going to find an engine that suits the needs and wants of all the passengers in the car. . Cleverer people than me have studied and discussed this for centuries. There are several alternatives. (Radical decentralisation, polycentric governance, competitive governance, and so on and so forth). . Back to the point however. . Changing the engine won't satisfy the needs of the individual. I value individual needs above all other things. . So until the framework issue is addressed, the engine operator is a moot point, IMHO." What is your point in a way the average person can understand

That's why I think the real problem isn't which party wins elections or even which leader exerts power. . It's that we're trying to make one governance system fit everyone. . Until we rethink that underlying framework, changing governments is just swapping the engine in the same car.

All governments have the same core mission it’s how they go about delivering change that is different. It doesn’t mean the framework is flawed it is government policies that are flawed.

"I think you’re mixing up political philosophy and government. All governments have the same core mission it’s how they go about delivering change that is different. It doesn’t mean the framework is flawed it is government policies that are flawed. " Indeed. That admixture is deliberate and intentional, not accidental. . All governments do not the same core mission. . If they did, then there would be nothing to distinguish them from each other and they'd all be the same, just different in execution. . Various governments pursue radically different objectives. Eg, Post-WW2 social democracy in Sweden General Pinochet's regime in Chile Mao's China . I think you are suggesting that the framework is fine, it's the policies that are flawed. I do not accept that. I believe both are responsible. . If every ideology eventually produces similar tensions between power, representation and competing individual needs, perhaps it's worth questioning whether the underlying governance framework deserves as much scrutiny as the policies themselves. That was the core thrust of my original statement, though perhaps it was too abstract initially.

"I think we’re about to find out what life might’ve been like had Michael Foot or Neil Kinnock somehow ended up as PM." I don't think so! The last great leader was John Smith.. the greatest PM we never had. They were all socialists. The labour party are now neo liberal Tory lites. The rot set in with Tony Blair . If you think labour are socialists .. think again!!!!

"Absolute lefty bell end that has no clue what he's doing. You thought Starmer was bad... He's like hold my beer and watch me fuck this right up. Expensive... Prepare to be taxed more working people! He fucked up the police, fire and ambulance in GMP. He's going to be worse for thr bond markets than Liz Truss " Yeah. Probably a good idea to keep some cash by if you can and tap into those higher ISA rates that are around the corner. Oh right we can't as Reeves as fixed it so that you can't invest more than £ 12K unless you are 65 or over.
