Shabir Ahmed apparently can’t be deported, so what should happen to him?

The Pakistan government won’t have him back.

He has had his British citizenship revoked, although that’s pretty symbolic really as he’s still here.

Stop giving Pakistan foreign aid, restrict visas etc?

Government should publicly announce that they are not going to give him any special protection and where he is.

For cases like this where the criminal has to be deported but they won't leave, we should send them back to prison and tell them that they can either go back to their country or rot in prison.

I’d agree with that…

I also fail to understand how the government didn’t see this coming…

Book a flight to Lahore, put him on it and leave it at that.

There are so many things broken here. Why wasn't he given a life sentence in the first place? He was given 22 years sentence. But he is released in 14 years. Why? I understand that the justice system here let's people out early in many cases. But clearly this scumbag has to be kept inside the prison for public safety? Whistleblowers who helped with the investigation are saying that they are afraid now.

If deportation of criminals is a problem, ban visas and financial aid to countries which don't take back their criminals. Trump, with all his faults showed how you can deport these kind of people if the politicians are really motivated to do so.

Concurrent sentencing is one reason he is out now. A simple change in sentencing to remove serious crimes from concurrent sentencing should keep these types behind bars for a lot longer..

I guess then they will complain about there not being enough space in prison.

Simple solutions to simple problems

If they stop spending billions on schemes and projects that are never going to provide a ROI, we could have a new prison in every town.

Thank you, TM!

Mr Ahmed is I think the end result of the liberal approach to law and order.

Accuse a person of colour of sexual assault?

La-la-la-la-la fingers in ears I can hear anything…

Accuse a whole gang of people of colour of multiple sexual assaults?

They just double down on their original deafness.

Did any of those complicit in the cover up do time?

Not quite enough if his genitalia remain attached to the end.

Why don't we outsource keeping prisoners to other countries. Am sure some of the the other prisons around the world, would deter quite a few from re-offending.

He should be kept in the UK so he can spill the beans on everyone else involved in the authorities. All this faux outrage calling for his deportation in the controlled press? They don't want to risk him talking.

"Should never of been allowed out full stop.if he goes back home he gets the death penalty.does anyone really care. no he deserves it. "

It's not about what he deserves (after all, he has served a sentence for his crimes).

.

It's what it says about us if we deported him knowingly and willingly to a country where he might face execution.

.

State-sanctioned murder by proxy, basically and that is a very slippery slope indeed where a civil society could ultimately "lose itself".

.

Mechanisms once considered abhorrent that became "normalised" have a very nasty habit of expanding their scope.

.

If we send him to his death, then we just become monsters in a different way.

.

The law recognises that some offenders continue to pose a risk, which is why he is released under licence and that can include lifetime monitoring and curtailment.

.

Thus, his "sentence" and loss of full liberty and freedom will continue for a very long time. Probably until he dies. In effect, a "remaining and ongoing Life Sentence" if you look at it in that way.

.

That's beyond what the Judge and the statute books gave him originally.
