Are you watching the wrong sort of shows or the wrong news? Don't worry, there are plans to make that right:

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/plans-for-prominence-of-trusted-news-sources-on-social-media-alongside-measures-to-reform-public-service-media-in-the-uk

"The Government has outlined plans to make it easier for people to discover trusted news sources on social media, as part of wider reforms to protect the long-term future of the UK’s media ecosystem, including our public service broadcasters."

"The government is also looking at options to ensure PSM content - the beloved shows and valued services that the nation’s trusted and regulated broadcasters provide - is prominent, discoverable and promoted wherever audiences are watching TV, including on third-party platforms, such as video sharing sites. "

- thoughts?

cahoots

If a government wants us to easily find and watch content that they deem to be the correct content then it's censorship by any other name.

We all gravitate towards the media that confirms what we already think. Sometimes that reinforces our beliefs and sometimes it makes them far more entrenched and hard line, occasionally it radicalises us but government approved media...nope, no thank you, I think not.

How about putting resources into helping people use observational and critical thinking skills 🤔

Dont be silly - if you educate people they ask questions .

Questions as to how a guy who has been elected by less than 25,000 of the country, will now lead us for the next xx months !

This has been a malaise over the last two decades if not longer - and just goes to show that politics and the political system in this Country is broken .

Good luck to those who have children and grand-children in this country .

Not sure how far critical thinking will go in these kinds of things. One example is the case of John Swinney criticisng the Scottish girls who had an axe and knife and used them to scare away the guy who was trying to abuse them.

In that case, the police themselves published wrong information and John Swinney took that as the truth and made comments for which he has now apologised.

This doesn't mean that the police always lie. It's situations like these where "citizen journalism" from sites like twitter actually helps. The authorities need to be wary of publishing any wrong information because there is a good chance that someone else already posted videos about it on Twitter.

But then there is the AI generated/edited videos which are getting harder and harder to detect. We are racing quickly towards a post-truth society.

Welcome to England 2026 .

It's an interesting concept, that broadcasters who have costly duties, for the public good, are able to get some prominence. But obviously, the devil is in the details. I'd prefer that to prominent AI slop and provocative clickbait, that stokes division.

It certainly needs to be managed very carefully and the broadcasters not being government mouthpieces.

People will probably gravitate towards their preferred sources, even if they do sample some of the legacy media data, I'm guessing.

Simple - do not do social media and trust your own sources .

Agree! But sadly in this age of AI these skills are going to weaken 😔
