Would Starmer do the unthinkable?

Costa Blanca Spain...

So it's looking like Burnham is going to win in Makerfield which will mean a direct challenge to Starmer.

Starmer must already know that he is toast as PM. So would he do the unthinkable - as a last spiteful act on the back benchers who he sees as traitors - by calling a snap GE before Burnham can get his foot in the door?

Thoughts.

No, it'll take some time to properly discredit Farage and his bunch of merry, but clueless, wankers.

I'm not sure that's "unthinkable". Starmer has always said that a change of PM should result in a general election, so calling one would be completely consistent with his previous statements. Of course, so far he's only said that about changes of other parties' PMs.

Absolutely no chance of that happening he maybe on his way out but his loyalty to the party would override his bitterness to those he perceives as being his back stabbers.

As previously stated it is a long road to an election and time to watch the implosion of Reform and their grifter in chief

Correction - the discredit of Farage is well and truly out there and his reputation is shot...but convincing the electorate is what takes time. Still far too many are oblivious and still think "he deserves a go". The guy and his ex Tory chumps are all grifting see you next Tuesdays.

The give it a go voters are what led to Trump and his band of morons,d*unks and just plain con men. We can do without that type of stupidity in this country . That people have any trust in Farage completely baffles me as his record on everything proves he is and always has been a man on the make,a rabble rouser long on finger pointing very very short on workable answers to any situation

I wouldn't be so sure.

If Burnham gets in, becomes PM and doesn't turn into the saviour that people hope and believe.

It may actually help Reform at next GE.

I don't think it will make any real difference who gets in.

Unless they are willing to tackle unsavoury issues that make them unpopular, things will just trundle along from one mess to another.

Blame passing from one side to another, while problems just build and build.

On that basis it is definitely not happening as he has flip flopped and changed his mind about everything else.

Starmer won't call for a GE, as he knows that if he does, labour are out of government .. he would rather have a crony that he doesn't like than not have a Labour government

I don't think anyone can solve the woes of most who comment and complain about politics and politicians.

If there was any easy or hard fix it would have risen its head by now.

Seems only yesterday on FAB people were bitching about the Tories and the joyous time ahead if only Labour get into power.

Once in power, the narrative changes, always has done, always will.

Maybe we just have to wait until the Country hits the buffers and the shit hits the fan, everyone blaming everyone else and running around like headless chickens, while the politicians run off into the sunset.

If you want real change for yourself and family, ask the person in the mirror

That would be very funny tbh and probably the threat of it woukd stop a leadership bid

Cabinet ministers loyal to Keir Starmer have told him he faces being forced out of office by his party if he does not set a timetable for his departure by the end of the weekend. (Guardian this evening)

Too much emphasis on one guy to save the party, save the government and the country. People forget that external influences can dictate decision and policy and much of this is out if anyones control, e.g economic downturn, war, etc. Placing faith in Burnham alone is not a basis to turn things around

No. He's a decent person and understands the harm it would cause. He has a moral compass, unlike many who have had and are in power.

Not sure what anyone can do in the current political environment.. no matter how decent they are the political machine behind them won't let them make the necessary decisions

A decent person would stick to their own words and principles, don't you think?
