Finding it difficult to see how this will end, if Putin backs down he is probably finished so will this grind on for another year?

The ties have turned. I think it will be one another year too. I can see a shift in the war where ukraine is now having the upper hand, especially with their advancement with the drone technology, with ai enabled, gps independent targeting systems, last month ukraine managed to liberate more land than russia seized too.

I think Putin has painted himself into a very dangerous corner of his own making. Unfortunately, he may feel he has little left to lose politically, and people in that position often opt for a double-or-nothing gamble.

If someone genuinely believed that failure could cost them their life, it wouldn't be surprising if they chose to take bigger and bigger risks. From their perspective, going all in might seem like the only option left.

Either way, I cannot forsee how this will all end, except for with great catastrophe.

Putin witnessed the collapse of East Germany and later the Soviet Union from inside the system. It's reasonable to wonder whether those experiences left him deeply averse to appearing weak or presiding over a strategic defeat.

I have no idea how it will end but Ukraine have been excellent at disabling the Russian air defences and are now using drones very effectively to attack Russian logistics all the way from the front line to hundreds of miles into Russia. Moscow is repeatedly being hit. This war is starting to impinge on the daily lives of Russians at the very moment that the tide is turning on the battlefield.

The likelihood is it will go on for years because Trump and Europe won’t, and Russia has huge resources for mobilisation

We all feel sorry for the people of Ukraine but there government keeps asking for more and more money to help the fight.

But here's the kicker why does the Ukrainian still allow Russia to pump there oil though there country to the black sea and then on to whoever is buying it which of course is funding there war.

They don't tell you that on the UK news.

Russian drones have hit both Poland and Romania.

I suppose you were the sort of person who in the 1930s was saying ‘if we just let Hitler keep Sudetenland he won’t go any further.’

The US has wasted so much of its missile capacity in Iran that it couldn’t defend Taiwan even if it wanted to. Plus fighting a war 80 miles from your border is much easier than fighting a war over 6000 miles from your borders.

Crimea was a warning, nato ignored it

IMO it is now stopped at 20% of Ukraine, Russias monthly mobilisation is killed each month. I think he’s bitten off more than he can now handle.

How it ends if ever is unknown

No-one has definite proof of what Putin may or may not do.

However, this thread isn't a court of law. It's asking for opinions, no-one has to proove anything.

My feeling is that Putin would go further once/if he has beaten Ukraine.

He's made no secret that he yearns for the "good" old days of the Soviet Union and should he defeat Ukraine then, after a period to regroup, the Baltic states would be firmly in his sights.

Besides, as a peacetime leader Putin knows that he is well past his sell by date. Like all despots he needs war to cling to power.

He's certainly bitten off more than he can chew.

He fully expected Ukraine to roll over in a matter of weeks, but 4 plus years on here we are.

I think that if Ukraine had fallen quickly we would now be posting on threads about the invasion of Latvia/Lithuania/Estonia or maybe he would be sabre rattling at Poland. Kaliningrad and the Suwalki gap is still a big issue for Putin.

The one thing we can be thankfull for is that Putin is now 4 years older and well into his 70's. Father Time stops for no man.
