"This item is posted in the hope of sensible debate. It is not posted in order to creat conflict but rather to understand the mechanics and motives for what essentially has wasted lots of money. It seems several Reform candidates that won seats in recent elections have subsequently resigned in England as well as some here in Wales. They didn't win over all so they quit. How childish. I'm taking my ball and going home (sulk). Can we talk about the disgusting waste of time and money from Reform now? I am interested to debate the ethics of such candidates that put themselves forward for positions and now want to force by elections. I am at a total loss to understand how if you voted Reform how can you justify this type of action? " This would do better in the politics forum section OP. If your looking for a debate.

If you were really interested in a sensible debate you wouldn't be calling one side "childish" or stating that their behaviour was "disgusting" while ignoring the other parties that have done the same thing. I think you just posted that to have a rant, with no intention of listening to other people's viewpoints.

"As I've posted on similar threads. All party's field what are known as "paper candidates". Basically they stand in a ward which the party considers unwinnable but needs a name on the ballot paper so the few supporters they have in that ward have someone to vote for. Landslides can and often do throw up a shock or two where a paper candidate actually wins but is in no position to take up the seat. I myself have stood as a paper candidate many times in my days as a Conservative party member. Thankfully I never won but had I done so then I would have had to resign due to work commitments. All party's do it so it's no big deal." Presumably all Conservative candidates are now "Paper Candidates" as they have no chance of winning anywhere any more.

I suppose there could be some truth in that. But I think they will make a bit of a comeback (although not a full blown bounce) in some areas. Kemi is about the best party leader in the Commons at the moment which will help. In some parts of the country I think there will be a good few Labour ones as well.

It was a tongue on cheek comment to be honest. My Tory MP, Joe Robertson seems a cut above most in the Shadow Cabinet, but Badenoch is too scared to reshuffle because she is vulnerable to being ousted. Since July 2024 she has led a fall in the polls from 24% to 16%. She doesn't seem to inspire voters?
