"The BBC claims to have found an Iranian inside Tehran to whom it attributes the following statement: "About them using an atomic bomb or levelling Iran… I’m OK with all of these.” Being on Fab might convince you that most people support the Islamic Republic of Iran, but that's not actually the case." Explain your comments connection to the subject being discussed.

"Says it all, the BBC. An untrusted source of any news. Probably early 2000s is when they adopted hate and shock sells attitude. When they started promoting Farage daily on BBC 2 at lunchtimes. Then they went full Murdoch then after. " The BBC hates Farage and anybody right of centre, the couldn’t kiss 2 Kier’s arse enough

"Not really surprising. We were being told yesterday that Iranians were willingly standing on bridges as willing to die in defence of their transport infrastructure. Another poster reminded us that whole families of Iranians, children included, were prepared to walk across minefields during the Iraq war. It’s not really surprising that people with such a mindset should also be willing to die to rid themselves of Islamic extremism." -------------------------- Interesting perspective, dont you think the mindset of a regime that declares unilaterally that they will wipe out a 5000 year old civilisation more troubling?

I don’t particularly concern myself with Trump’s social media posts. By now we all know how he negotiates. He threatens big and then backs off. It’s standard commercial negotiating technique that anyone who has been in business would be perfectly familiar with. What I find slightly more odd is that TDS sufferers, who spend all their time telling us that Trump is a lying nutjob, nevertheless continue to take his social media posts at face value. Maybe they should do more research on what he actually does rather than spending their time freaking out about superficial social media posts.

Mocking someone for forming an alleged opinion from them is laughable.

Like their opinion is the definition of allowed or not.

Iran was never a British colony. I’m all in favour of cause and effect but the reason the Mullahs came to power was more likely the effect of the Pahlavi dynasty from 1925 (the final Shah fleeing the country in 1979). Iran before 1979 had some of the trappings of modernity due to its oil wealth but there was a lot of waste on vanity projects and not many people saw the benefits of the oil money, and there was lots of repression. The Mullahs have retained power through oppression. Iran is the second highest executioner of people in the world behind China, obviously it’s widely known that it likes hanging gays, and beating up women for dressing inappropriately. I’m no expert on Iran so I’ve no idea how widely popular the Mullahs are. My guess would be not very. GDP per capita is around $5000; in the 1970’s it was $7000.

" Sanctioning Iran goes back to the Iranians taking US hostages at their Tehran embassy in 1979 (to try & force the US to extradite The Shah). Sanctions for various other reasons since then.

The Iranian Regime has been extremist since 1979 - its their ideology, nothing to do with external actions.

They sowed the seeds of what became the Islamic Revolution.
