In the first instance you need to actually have a navy to send in, so the decision for Starmer is an easy one. No doubt he will stand at a podium and try and look tough about it while nobody listens.

The best thing in the UK would be for the government to remove all taxes payable on petrol at the pump by consumers.

That would be an enormous help with the added burden of current events for people already struggling with the cost of living crisis.

Want to try and used some context here

Uk petrol prices have gone up from 125p per litre pre war to 145p now … so from £5 per gallon to £5.80

US petrol prices have gone up from $2.96 per gallon pre war to $4.05 now …..

UK percentage increase - 16%

Did quite enjoy this description of Trump at work on the whole matter:

"Friday's press gaggle. Barely exaggerated: at 12:03 PM, President Trump told reporters he wanted a ceasefire with Iran. At 12:05 he declared victory. At 12:07 he announced he was sending Marines. At 12:08 he said no boots on the ground. At 12:11 he said he did not want a ceasefire. At 12:16 he declared victory again. At 12:17 he asked for a ceasefire. At 12:23 he told NATO they were cowards. At 12:29 he said Iran was begging for a ceasefire. At 12:31 he said everything was perfect. At 12:36 he said $500 oil was a good thing. At 12:37 he demanded Iran open Hormuz. At 12:39 he said Hormuz was never closed. At 12:41 he said the US was not at war with Iran. At 12:42 he declared victory in Iran."

"TRUMP: I AM PLEASE TO REPORT THAT THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, AND THE COUNTRY OF IRAN, HAVE HAD, OVER THE LAST TWO DAYS, VERY GOOD AND PRODUCTIVE CONVERSATIONS REGARDING A COMPLETE AND TOTAL RESOLUTION OF OUR HOSTILITIES IN THE MIDDLE EAST. BASED ON THE TENOR AND TONE OF THESE IN DEPTH, DETAILED, AND CONSTRUCTIVE CONVERSATIONS, WITCH WILL CONTINUE THROUGHOUT THE WEEK, I HAVE INSTRUCTED THE DEPARTMENT OF WAR TO POSTPONE ANY AND ALL MILITARY STRIKES AGAINST IRANIAN POWER PLANTS AND ENERGY INFRASTRUCTURE FOR A FIVE DAY PERIOD, SUBJECT TO THE SUCCESS OF THE ONGOING MEETINGS AND DISCUSSIONS. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER! PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP

….Meanwhile, Iranian news saying there's been no contact and Trump backed down. That should go down well.

If you want a really… really cynical view, the tweet went out just 2 hrs before the US markets opened…. And is due to end after markets close on Friday

You could argue it’s an attempt to manipulate the markets… and bought 5 days grace

Maybe he is calming the markets, rather than manipulating them.

It probably explains why recent military activities have commenced on a Friday night into Saturday.

And his "friends" (if he has any) and family know this and make a fortune "

Data from the oil markets looks like someone tipped the wink just before trump announced his pause there were spikes on oil futures..

5 minutes before the President announced a halt to attacks on Iran… Someone placed a $1.5 BILLION bet on stocks going up and dumped $192 million in oil.5 minutes.

These trades were 4 to 6 times larger than anything else in the market at that time. Whoever did this wasn’t guessing. You don’t risk $1.5 billion on a hunch. There was zero public indication this announcement was coming. No leaks. No press. Nothing. The only people who knew were in the room when the decision was made. Someone in that room picked up a phone & within minutes, they made more money than most Americans will earn in a thousand lifetimes. In a single trade. On a war that cost $4+ gas and $16 billion in tax dollars.

American citizens funded this war. Politicians are positioned to profit from it. This is not the first time. Major announcements have repeatedly been preceded by suspicious market moves tariff reversals, policy shifts, war decisions. This may be one of the most blatant examples of potential insider advantage in modern American politics. You would go to prison for trading on a tip from your cousin. Yet billion-dollar trades happen minutes before decisions like this and no one asks questions. Nobody gets investigated. Nobody gets charged. By tomorrow, this will be buried under the next headline. Just like last time. And the time before that. The game is rigged. The insiders pull the strings and win over and over. And they’re not even trying to hide it anymore.

What evidence do you have that this happened?

Well good luck with trade through that region in that case. Unless he's sorted out high up contacts in the regime and given them brown envelopes we doubt this is going to end so soon.

I don’t have any evidence of that particular ‘bet’ so it could well be social media BS.

However, plenty of media outlets saying trading spiked unusually just before Trump put his dentures in.

Why would that be, without some kind of insider knowledge?

Thanks for an honest answer.

"However, plenty of media outlets saying trading spiked unusually just before Trump put his dentures in."

The BBC is saying that trades went from 20 to over 1650. It doesn't say that all of those trades were shorts (which is what would have made money). Maybe they were, but we don't know.

If the BBC's figures are correct, and the trades were all shorts, that's saying that Trump has more than 1600 people that he counts as good enough friends to engage in a criminal conspiracy with them. And that he made sure that all of them knew at the same time, so that the trades could all happen in the same minute, just to make it look extra suspicious. And that none of those traders were clever enough to wait a minute or two in an attempt to avoid detection by the SEC's automated fraud scans.

"Why would that be, without some kind of insider knowledge?"

The obvious possibility is that Truth Social isn't very well coded, and it's reporting an incorrect timestamp.

The spotlight is now on & it’ll be interesting to see what the official explanation is won’t it?

It certainly will. Though I suspect that there will turn out to be a reasonable explanation, and therefore the press won't bother reporting it.
