Starmer - "No Winston Churchill"

Trump's jibe about Starmer being "no Winston Churchill" has a hollow ring to it in the light of history.

Iran were still in negotiations with the USA when Trump ordered this unconstitutional and unprovoked attack. Starmer quite rightly considered the situation in the light of international Law (which the USA ignores) and allowed access to our bases 3 days later.

Least we forget. Britain was at war with the Axis powers from 3rd September 1939. The USA only joined, after Pearl Harbour was attacked, on 8th December 1941 despite Winston Churchill's frequent requests for support. Trump does not bother with history.

It's very hard to argue that SKS is doing the wrong thing here. Some might believe that he should be more proactive and gung ho, and there is certainly a viewpoint that a bolder leader would take a decisive view on what's right and act accordingly, despite conventions to the contrary... But his approach is quite fair and understandable.

Starmer usually appears to try to do the upright thing. Which doesn't always translate well into practical politics. It's almost a technocratic style of governance.

By contrast, Boris, who fancies himself a modern day Churchill, would want to be pictured wearing a Union flag emblazoned hard hat at an awkward angle while leading a charge against an IRGC building...

I agree that Starmer's approach appears cautious but then his training and career as a Barrister led him to carefully consider matters before opening his mouth.

If I want excitement I will watch Jason Statham. I don't want him as a PM though.

"Starmer is more like Captain Mainwaring."

Maybe, but Mainwaring was a cautious Bank Manager. It is, to continue the analogy, a pity the USA elected the equivalent of Private Joe Walker as President.

I’m not sure I agree. A barristers job is not to consider all points of view before speaking, that’s the judges job. A barristers job is to be persuasive and convince other people that what they think and are saying is right.

And it’s not even their opinion, it’s an opinion they are being paid to hold by their clients, usually either the CPS or a defendant. Could be a civil matter of course such as family court.

I think Starmers many U-turns are perhaps because he’s not used to making decisions, he’s used to arguing a point he’s been told to argue for. Politics is not a court room where there’s two sides, there’s multiple points of view and very often they all contain some validity.

couple, us we him her.

Different times, Different rules.

The UK government took legal advice regarding letting the USA use their bases, as the actions by Trump....

Are not legal then the UK held back.

Once Iran retaliated then we can offer the bases as a defensive option.

But I'd imagine that Churchill wouldn't be able to act as he did 80plus years ago today!

And besides Trump wouldn't last two minutes in the company of actual real leaders, he's just a petulant child stamping his feet and screaming until he gets his own way.

Personally I think Starmer has shown restraint and diplomacy acting as he has, not giving in to bullying.

The man child until recently was talking about invading Greenland..

He goes on about how things are changed and China is the focus for America so Europe better stand on its own two feet without Uncle Sam..

And hes right in saying that and has focused eyes on the state of Europe's defences..

But then hes surprised and his ego hurt when countries dont wag their tails and say yes master..

Bedfuck

Labour did bugger all when Callaghan was prime minister and The Shah of Iran was deposed, wierd as a Labour government put his dad on the throne in 67.

Labour still messed up with Iran in the Blair/Brown fiasco.

Labours history in Iran is shit.

If anything Starmer should just not get involved. A spanner in the works.

Mohammad Sarwar (Britain & Labour's first Muslim MP) certainly has strong words on the Ayatollah...

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cd03yz2dj4go

"

[He] described the ayatollah's death as a martyrdom which had "left hearts in grief".

He claimed the worldwide community of Muslims had lost "a strong voice of resistance", adding: "May Allah the Exalted grant him paradise of the highest degree.

"We share equally in the sorrow of the Iranian nation."

Later, posting a video of mourners in Tehran's Enghelab Square, Sarwar wrote: "On the martyrdom of Ayatollah Khamenei, every eye is filled with tears, every heart is in mourning."

Got to be Chris Philps..

He's their 'attack poodle', the early morning rant on the Today programme ..

Quite funny as he forgets he was a minister and has to be reminded about decisions taken during that time..

Let’s be honest, he’s absolute useless nonce and would try and sit on the fence as foreign forces invade us

On 2nd thoughts he encourages an invasion on daily basis, the guy is a complete and utter failure

He had flaws, made some awful decisions and nearly made some others but was talked out of them..

However without him and his sheer pig headedness the outcomes in the darkest hours of this nation might have been very bad..

Deployment of the Naval Division in 1914,Dardenelles...Salonika...but Trump wouldn't know any of that.

Jeffrey Epstein was a jew and no fool. He would have left his powerful "information" with someone he could trust.

It is said that he was close to Mossad. 🫢 Could it be with them? Is that possibly why Trump is so close to Netanyahu and willing to do what the Israeli PM wants? 🤔 Will we ever know?
