"US also joined in."

Yes, Trump is broadcasting right now, stating they have jointly struck with Israel and they intend to deplete all ballistic missiles

I believe Iran will retaliate massively in next few hours

If Trump and Israel are seriously looking to topple the Iranian regime it will require more than ground to air ordnance to take out the revolutionary guard..

Iran have vastly increased revolutionary guard and mass deployment on irans border

This is going to get far worse before it gets better

I hope no UK personnel are in Iran right now

Same was said about Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Lybia etc.

Investing in companies that build weapons is morally wrong, no? I get it, war is profitable. That's why there's so much around the world. How long until it arrives here?

They have apparently brought in their F22’s so it may be more than just shock and awe..

Apparently they asked the uk if they could use their bases here and in Cyprus to launch operations… UK said no

Also the Middle East countries with us bases have said they can’t use weapons based there or their airspace

There is a bit of irony in that Israel have kinda proved Irans point about not wanting to their own ballistic missiles when Israel attack them first…. There is no such thing as a preemptive defensive strike

I don’t understand what the end goal is. I get that everyone wants regime change but what is the plan after the bombs have fallen?

The US has an amazing track record in kicking off wars. Their first strike capability is the best the world has ever seen. They are truly shit at the day after. The day after is the one that really matters.

The current regime exists because of the US assassinating Iran's leader decades ago and installing a puppet.

The US wants Iran's resources, same as with other invasions.

This also helps Israel expand its territory. The plan for greater Israel.

The US can veto any sanctions from the UN. International law doesn't apply to them or any of the founding members.

There's bad people on all sides of this.

Supreme Court overrule his Tariffs, more Epstein details, so he decides to switch everyone’s attention

Losing Iran as an ally could be decisive in Ukraine, and make a peace deal more likely. Yeah let's make it all about making money rather than the loss of lives.

At least 50000 Iranians killed by their own Islamic regime. I posted many times about this and hardly anyone responded. Of course now the US is involved we'll see comment after comment attacking them. Thankfully the threads are still there to show the truth.

Some comments come over as anything but the West, I think it is more to do with people not being able to disconnect their Trump hatred...

Indeed, and most comments unfortunately. Meanwhile in Iran there are videos of women celebrating the bomb strikes. Such courage and integrity, qualities much of the West has abandoned.

I was listening to a news report and an Iranian said the same thing, that his family in Iran were celebrating the attacks.

I do hope this is a decisive blow and Iranians can finally shake off sanctions and begin to thrive."

It's hardly reported in our media but large parts of the Muslim world are becoming more Liberal and secular, especially younger people who crave freedom and opportunities. While in the West we embrace the very worst aspects of Islamic conservatism and extremism. 🤷

near enough

"If Trump and Israel are seriously looking to topple the Iranian regime it will require more than ground to air ordnance to take out the revolutionary guard..

Typical Starmer cowardice, probably thought appeasement would win him the by election 🙄 "

North West

I thought Trump had obliterated the Iranian nuclear enrichment sites last time out?

Or maybe he was full of his usual braggadocio.

No doubt Netanyahu has been constantly in his ear since then.

If anybody thinks this will lead to long term peace in the Middle East, then I respectfully disagree. As long as there are groups of people who feel aggrieved, you’ve got no chance.

The full invasion of Iraq was not justified either in international law or for pragmatic reasons, and the post Sadaam management of Iraq was a disaster by the Bush administration. However the Iraqi people also bear some responsibility for their own country and the sectarianism there.

I doubt very much that the US will invade Iran, nor does that country have the Sunni/Shia divide which has plagued Syria. Iran also has a long historical integrity as a country and culture which Syria and Libya (an Obama/Clinton disaster) lacked.

If the US and Israel can remove Iran's leadership and cripple the Revolution Guard then I think there is a good chance a better regime will arise, and their actions will be justified.

You can’t justify an action like war based upon the potential outcome though.

What if the desired outcome isn’t achieved? Then the war wasn’t justified. That makes no sense.

On that basis no course of political action should ever be undertaken unless the preferred outcome is guaranteed.

War can be justified if failing to act would produce more harm than not acting.

It is then absurd to say a war isn’t justified because it produced a result that wasn't planned for after the event.

From President Trump:

"When we are finished, take over your government. It will be yours to take. This will be probably your only chance for generations.”

When fascist Germany and Japan were devastated beyond imagination by war, their people rebuilt their countries as modern wealthy democracies in less than two decades, with plenty of American aid of course.

It the Islamofascist regime falls in Iran, then its amazing people with one of the worlds oldest civilisations will have their future in their hands.

At least 45 others were wounded in the attack, the news agency reported. It provided no further details about the casualties

"Any word from the Board of Peace yet?"

Interestingly, Trump knows his tea is oot (as we say in Scotland) come the mid terms. This attack now puts states in an emergency status which allows them to take control of the elections and bin them, from what I’ve just read. How convenient.

Slight problem…. If he is saying that this is a “war” then under the constitution he actually needs to get “war powers” authorisation from congress before enacting anything…

Always meddling. The UAE says it reserves the right to respond, in line with international law, to protect its sovereignty and security, but we all know they will not re retaliate or get involved in this kind of nonsense

Luke Pollard is Defence Readiness minister and Plymouth MP. He’s posted on FB omitting the recently announced ‘planes in the sky’ RAF support given to USA and Israel.

Labour took UK to an illegal war in Iraq that led to hundreds of service personnel killed. Another 150-250k dead Iraqis and two million Iraqis made homeless.

Three decades of terror attacks in the west have followed.

Best Labour keep UK away from this, we don’t want any more synagogue attacks or terror plots.

"From President Trump:

"When we are finished, take over your government. It will be yours to take. This will be probably your only chance for generations.”

When fascist Germany and Japan were devastated beyond imagination by war, their people rebuilt their countries as modern wealthy democracies in less than two decades, with plenty of American aid of course.

It the Islamofascist regime falls in Iran, then its amazing people with one of the worlds oldest civilisations will have their future in their hands.

🙏🙏🙏

Slight problem…. If he is saying that this is a “war” then under the constitution he actually needs to get “war powers” authorisation from congress before enacting anything…

Again it’s trump over reaching on his executive branch powers… especially since the objective is regime change "

He said they were an imminent nuclear threat to the USA

I guess they weren't because he obliterated their nuclear capability a short time ago.

Didn't he ?

With regards to the OP, I understand the financial logic you’re pointing out. But investing isn’t morally neutral. It’s an act of choosing what I materially support. I’m not comfortable profiting from industries whose growth depends on armed conflict and human suffering. That would conflict with my personal moral responsibility.

.

Profitability and ethical legitimacy are not the same thing.

.

Many things can be profitable without being morally acceptable.

.

My investment decisions aren’t based solely on expected returns, but also on whether I can justify my participation ethically.

.

For me personally, profiting from war creates a moral conflict. Even if I’m far removed from the battlefield, I would still be benefiting financially from systems that produce real human harm. That’s not something I’m willing to participate in.

.

I have to be able to live with my decisions. Financial gain isn’t worth compromising my sense of ethical consistency. I would rather earn less and remain aligned with my principles than profit in a way that conflicts with them.

.

Choosing to invest is an affirmative act. It’s not neutral. It’s allocating capital toward a specific outcome. I take that responsibility seriously.

Yeah and Netanyahu flees to Greece every single time. So what’s your point?

I can’t believe that a bunch of Epstein boys are ruling the world and care for woman rights all of sudden? I think the whole west needs cleaning up of dirty politicians. Should Russia and China come over and decide what country needs to do what, and if they don’t listen we’ll cut them off from the world. Bombard them, take out their leaders and recourses and fuck off.

To be fair, it doesn't help when a regime pronounces that it's dedicated to the destruction of the USA and Israel, and takes concrete steps in that direction. Sometimes, someone will believe the rhetoric and act accordingly. It would've been really easy for Iran NOT to get hammered like they are now... Don't make it your business to interfere with Israel and Israel won't make it their business to interfere with you. By building an axis of anti-Israel militias, they drew a target on themselves.

You can't really complain about other countries doing to Iran exactly what Iran plotted to those countries now, can you?

Had Iran let go of the vision of destroying Israel and the US in the '90s and '00s and not pursued offensive capabilities and enrichment (while reiterating their vision), they wouldn't be where they are now. But don't pretend that this is simply an uninvolved third-party bully deciding "what country needs to do what, and if they don’t listen we’ll cut them off from the world. Bombard them, take out their leaders and recourses and fuck off."

Murdering your own citizens is illegal too. Sometimes when a nation is committing atrocities such as this lot, someone has to man up, put their big boy pants on and do something about it.

Russia would have blocked a motion in the security council so pointless asking.

Right, your confusion makes sense now.

You're referring to Customary International Law. "Illegal"is an incorrect term in this instance. You might be arguing that it is an "internationally wrongful act" or an "unlawful act."

Even if that is your argument, there are counterarguments with merit, specifically in relation to preemptive self defense. While this might sound hollow regarding the US, it is very real regarding Israel, since Iran has been attacking Israel directly and indirectly, and their rhetoric, if taken at face value, is no different to someone amassing and arming a group of friends outside someone's house, while chanting "we're gonna kill you soon!".

And even if it is indeed one day interpreted by some judiciary as "illegal", when facing an existential threat (which Israel arguably is), it's the right thing to do.

However, there is a degree of subjectivity here, and you have clearly nailed your colours to a different perspective.

There was no imminent threat from Iran, and the attacks were not ratified by the UN council.

The UN secretary general has explicitly stated that the attacks violate international law.

There is a clear divide in Muslim world between those Gulf states who are focused on economic growth and relative liberalisation, who want normal relations with Israel, and the fanatics like Iran who want to destroy it. It seems to be much more likely the moderates will win in the long run.

He's entitled to that opinion. Which is as valid as if Donald Trump decided that someone broke US law. It's an opinion from a leader, but he's not the final arbiter, regardless of what advice he sought.

There was no imminent threat from Iran, and the attacks were not ratified by the UN council.

There isn't, until there is. And when there is, it's too late. But you're welcome to disagree.

The UN secretary general has explicitly stated that the attacks violate international law.

He's entitled to that opinion. Which is as valid as if Donald Trump decided that someone broke US law. It's an opinion from a leader, but he's not the final arbiter, regardless of what advice he sought.

Happy to agree to disagree. "

I suspect the UN Secretary General knows more about the UN Charter than you, you’d agree?

Under that logic, anyone can attack anyone at any moment and be justified, right?

And i speak as someone who has served the country yet still marched in opposition to the 2nd Gulf War..

Its not where we should be as people who share the same piece of rock floating in space but it is..

It’s still illegal

Sorry, what is illegal, under which law and jurisdiction?

Article 2(4) of the UN charter

Murdering your own citizens is illegal too. Sometimes when a nation is committing atrocities such as this lot, someone has to man up, put their big boy pants on and do something about it.

Russia would have blocked a motion in the security council so pointless asking.

So we’re agreed that it’s an illegal act under international law, and we’re just going to try to justify it with whataboutery?"

Pretty sure that wasn’t what I said

Potentially. History will judge. As you pointed out, Iraq was an unmitigated disaster. Based on lies.

3.5 years to send peace keepers to Bosnia and failed dismally in Rwanda.

Just your statement that “There isn't (an imminent threat) until there is. And when there is, it's too late” is a very broad statement to make.

One could argue you’ve justified October 6th with your logic.

Also whataboutery though. Historic effectiveness of an organisation doesn’t refute the existence or authority of that organisation.

Yes. But there are many others with at least as much understanding who disagree.

You might argue that they are biased. Some would argue he is biased.

Again, we will need to agree to disagree.

There is legal and illegal. Then there is right and wrong. They do not always correlate.

Should Palestine Action be proscribed as a terrorist group, supporters would be criminals. Should it not be, they aren't. Does that mean right and wrong can fluctuate from day to day because of what a court and government decide? Some might say yes. Others not.

The MAGA "no more wars" faction will be upset with the grifter-in-chief and many others on all sideswill be furious at US servicemen being killed in the service of the Greater Israel project. It's going to cause extra problems for Drumpf in the mid-term elections.

But crucially, will Trump's FIFA Piss Prize be revoked?

What a nice backdrop to the World Cup.

The question is…. What should be done against a government ordering its troops into the street to shoot unarmed civilians. Nothing so far has worked. You may be of the opinion that some charter is more important that tens of thousands of lives and are quite happy to do nothing. I personally think that the UN was created to protect innocent people, not facilitate their slaughter at the hand of their own government

I’m not sure why Iraq is relevant to this?

Iraq was an invasion over suspected future threats.

The outcome we are seeing here is a response to an actual attack on Israel and sponsorship of proxies to also carry out attacks.

What specific link are you drawing between Iraq in 2003 and strikes on Iran now?

Remember June 2025? Trump said that Iran’s nuclear sites had been ‘obliterated’

And yet in February officials were saying that Iran is “probably a week away from having industrial-grade bomb-making material” after discussing nuclear enrichment.

It’s all very….. MAGA.
