"In America around 1,700 people have applied to become new immigration judges with the Trump administration, after a provocative social media ad campaign from the Departments of Justice and Homeland Security that featured stills from the dystopian satire Judge Dredd movie (Not the dreadful Stallone version). As Judge Dredd is a satire commentary on British and American culture with its focus on authoritarianism and police brutality the irony of this is truly outstanding. A case of life imitating art ? " You forgot to tell people why they are short of immigration judges…. Because the Trump administration basically fired almost every single immigration judge that had ruled against them in the past….

"Fab commentators sink to an all time low in admitting they like the Stallone version of Judge Dredd. Shame on you. " If you understand Judge Dredd you were never meant to see the face of Judge Dredd. As he represents the faceless system of law and justice. Something that Sly didn’t understand.

That is partly the reason the Karl Urban version - Dredd - is so superior.

But if you don't know who Judge Dredd is, the Stallone film is a good story, told in a slightly camp way. (I can't believe that I'm defending Stallone here, the guy is one of the worst actors in Hollywood.)

There's no place in a free society for those in the judiciary who apply the actual laws of the land as per the Constitution.. Nor a free and independent press who hold all in power to account.. Pretty sure someone called Goebels said something similar.. Careful what you wish for plebs..

He developed Judge Dredd as a satirical warning against the rise of fascism, the erosion of civil liberties, and the dangers of unbridled authoritarian power.

Power concentrated in one leader or small group Limited or no meaningful elections Restricted political opposition Limited civil liberties (speech, press, assembly) Weak checks and balances Courts not independent from political power . A non-authoritarian system is one where : Leaders can be removed through competitive elections There are legal limits on government power Independent courts can rule against the government Opposition parties are allowed Citizens retain protected civil rights . Clearly we are the second example. . Only two parties I am aware of are clamouring to remove protected civil rights, and neither are Labour.

"How well has the softly softly approach to justice been working out so far?" America has more people in prison than most developed countries and still have the death penalty in some states and their cops regularly kill criminals and non-criminals alike. If that's their softly softly approach to justice I dread to think what harsher attitudes would lead to!
