"Why even say the wait is over a hundred years? That’s just silly! Demand is far outstripping supply and those lucky enough to end up with a social housing property may end up with wasters, druggies, dossers and penniless refugees as neighbours. The government and previous government have encouraged welfare dependency and this is the result. " Having worked in social housing for almost ten years previously I'd say that's a pretty fair assessment. What happened to the affordable housing for lower earner's and key workers? That didn't seem to last long, new houses are considerably more expensive than old houses.

"In London over 50 % of social housing goes to those not born in UK. About 80% of Somalians are in example, much of it in the most expensive areas of the capital. Similar numbers for Afghans I believe. Imagine its similar in other big cities- was a story last week about Glasgow being overwhelmed by applications for housing help by people not even living in UK !!" Hardly surprising

"'A Scottish council (Glasgow) is seeking a taxpayer 'bailout' as a housing crisis spirals out of control - with refugees now making up nearly four in ten of the city's homelessness applications. New figures show a surge in asylum seekers granted “leave to remain” turning to councils for emergency housing — with Scotland seeing a 114% rise in just two years.' From Scottish Herald this week. " I wouldn’t believe these figures It’s called the “Scottish” Herald but like majority of papers up here they are published and printed in Manchester. Social Housing is piss poor though I lost my home in 2013 due to redundancy and bankruptcy Have been in private rental since as I can’t get pregnant, don’t take drugs/alcohol and a severe shortage of single bed housing Even if I was to get a flat, it would be in an old tenement building sharing with the above mentioned Hence I currently share my private let with my son and his 3 sons. He has a 3 bed house however, there is a tenant in there who is currently squatting and has more rights to be there than him. Whenever the legal system gets its finger out if it’s arse we will give up my tenancy and all move into his house. Then I go to the local authority and say we are overcrowded and I need a single bed occupancy that does not have said junkies, alcoholics and basic dead beats living near me I am 65 so, by my reckoning I may be dead before that happens

You can smash a cops back to bits with a sledge hammer and get away with it. But wave out nations flag and you’re gonna get a kicking in the police cells and some jail time. Someone invades your home and has more rights than you, but because you have a home you have no entitlement to temporary assistance.

"They don't have waiting lists around here. It's like an auction. A property comes up. They give it to the one they determine needs it most regardless of how long they've been waiting. If you are working with stereotypical people in your family, no mental health issues , no trans kids etc, they are not interested you can rent privately. They tell you this if you apply. " Partially true I suffer from PTSD and have days where my anxiety can be so crippling I can’t get my head off the pillow I don’t get any help yet But know of neighbours who play the system. I used to work with my local CAB and SSAFA and yes it hurt like fuck to go cap in hand to my local food bank where I once handed out vouchers and advice to people who are in my current situation. Waiting lists as such are a thing of the past. Whenever anything becomes available the council have a website where you can bid for a house. If you don’t meet the criteria then tough It’s the same with other housing authorities like Link, Trust, Sanctuary etc. I have added myself to “waiting” lists with them all. I find myself meeting the criteria of a particular property and bid only to find 3,000 others have bid for the same place.

Life can change quickly for good and bad so I hope it turns again for you.🙏

Partially true " This is literally what my friends were told, they worked for time just above minimum wage they have two teenage children, their rent is over £1000 a month, they were literally told if their kids or not special-needs or trans or one of them that adults is not disabled They will not get a house through the housing association or council

"Incidentally my private let costs me more per month than my mortgage was. It is actually £200 a month more than my sons mortgage The landlord has already informed me that will rise in August so I’m fucked then anyway. Do Norway take in Refugees I’ve got a kayak and a couple of rubber dinghy’s I might just row myself over there " Not sure on Norway's policy but you might be better off using your Kayak down the coast all the way to Dover or close by. Land on the beach and claim asylum with all the freebies. Oh don't forget to throw your id overboard before you land.
