Why does it cost getting on for a tenner in the uk but only around €3 in Europe ? Even service stations only around €3.75

I was wondering if it's because we drink coffee by the litre and cake by the bucketful does the fortunes are much smaller than Europe but it's only mostly water and flour. Europe has min wage and even deducting 13% difference between VAT and IGIC is still a massive difference

A few years ago I seem to remember these forums being appalled when Boris recommended folk spend a few quid on a kettle and buy their tea and coffee at a supermarket.

My nearest town consistently appears in the UK top 10 most deprived areas yet in town we’ve got every coffee shop chain you can think of plus numerous independents…and they’re busy.

Apparently the food banks are busy too, so somewhere the math ain’t mathing 🤷‍♂️

If you don't mind sharing a cup you can buy a coffee for about a pound in Wetherspoons and refill for free, don't think they sell cakes, probably a pond shop nearby you could by a cake there.

El Medano Tenerife , coffee is €1-2 , cake about the same. €3.75 this morning for coffee and cake at a service station on TF-1

Spain salaries are about 30% lower than UK.

Plus you could probably get coffee and cake at a similar price in Greggs

Yes. Denmark or Sweden be over a tenner, Germany about 6 euros, Spain or Portugal 4ish for small coffee and pastry.

My coffee at Starbucks costs about £4 I think. Prices have been steadily increasing well above inflation since the coffee shop boom started. My guess is they are testing the sweet spot where the price starts to deter purchases.
