Former Tory chancellor Nadhim Zahawi has said the UK is ‘sick’

Zahawi previously claimed £5,822.27 for his horses stables electricity bill on MP expenses which were paid by the taxpayer.

He has now defected to Reform UK

Is this an indication of more defections to strengthen reform?

In one week Reform has chosen a Muslim woman to be its candidate for London Mayor and now recruited an Iraqi born politician to presumably lead on economic policies, joining the current Muslim Head of Policy.

For a racist gammon party it really needs to do better !

You haven seen the wing of the reform uk online that are livid they chose her as their candidate! Besides… she is absolutely awful at interviews.. If GB news can tear her a good one, lord knows what the real media will do

And as for nadim… I don’t think someone who got sacked for breaking the ministerial code.. and then had to settle a tax bill for £5 million… is going to really help the cause

There is only so much mileage you can get out of “old Tory defects to new tories”

Yeah I think it's a strategic mistake for Reform to take people who are jumping ship. For one thing, Reform tries to project itself as a party that's going to govern differently and taking people like Zahawi who have been in the ruling party for such a long time doesn't really inspire confidence. And the other problem is it's clear that the politicians jumping from Tories to reform are jumping to protect themselves and not for any ideological reasons. These politicians could turn out to liabilities in an election.

A man who admits his government failures that he was central to, is hardly something to be proud about . He wanted to get into the House of Lords but the Cons wouldn't sink that low, despite multiple attempts

Is he just using Reformed Conservatives as his way to the Lords, should Nigel want to help it be more Reform loaded. We're obviously not privy to what he wants and has maybe agreed. It's not the look of a trustworthy party, not the majority of people inside it. But he needs the gravy train to continue, like the rest of them

There's definitely a danger of what you describe but potential benefits also. One of Reform's weakest points is a lack of experience so a few people who have held office could help with that. Despite his dodgy tax records Nadhim seems like a super smart guy who's been very successful in business. I do agree he'll have his own agenda but that's true of all politicians.

Wonder why the Tories would spread negative stories about him, it will remain a mystery I guess!

He is also super rich so doesn't exactly need the gravy train.

Very much agree that this helps with Reforms lack of experience problem but does not help with the accusations that Reform are just Tory party 2.0

According to an article, Reform have turned down several Tory Mo's so guess they are sensitive to this accusation
