Economics, politics and falling birthrates...and fab

I do wonder if it's all connected, alot of folks seem annoyed about many things at the moment. This seems to be across the world, but the UK especially. There is a male loneliness epidemic, and a view that it's hard to connect. I think we also see an echo of this on fab with an influx of men.

I wonder how it all connects, and how economics, politics, and the general feeling in the population translates into the swinging world. I think you need to be comfortable and confident, but unfortunately alot of the UK is going the other way.

It's a shame, there is so much potential, and opportunity to live and enjoy. Wonder if anyone else is seeing a link between the conditions in the UK, and the effects here, in the LS?

I think it's no surprise that we have a declining birth rate when you need to have two incomes to buy a house, generally survive and when childcare costs more than many people earn themselves.

I also think that it's no major surprise that men in particular struggle to meet people when people go out less and less, many people don't do well on online dating who would do very well if they met in person.

How that translates to fab I have no idea, but I'd say the frustration men feel here is exactly the same as in non sexual online channels.

The problem here is that I get the sense that many men come here when they've struggled elsewhere and expect it to be easier

It's happening in many places around the world. I live in Japan now, people here are working 12+ hours daily and on weekends, to just about make a living. There is no time for love, let alone children.

Bacteria in a petri dish needs the right conditions to thrive and grow. We're not bacteria, but in similar way we also need the right social and economic conditions to grow.

Most of the reasons for which people used to have children are either completely gone or weakened now.

Religion - Not many people are religious now

Social pressure - There isn't as much social pressure to get married, let alone have kids

Children for labour - Used to be a thing where children are seen as an economic advantage as you can get them to do work. Not anymore

Old age support - Children were supposed to look after their old parents. Now you have private and state pensions.

Meaning and purpose in life - Increasing Consumerism and people's need for instant gratification means people would rather travel around the world or focus on personal goals instead of having kids and looking after them.

It's a global trend, with likely multiple causes. In the UK. Incomes have flatlined since the banking induced crash of 2008. Whilst the cost of living has rocketed. The 2 child benefits limit is also going to have had an effect and is stupid and cruel

We can't both be telling people not to have children if they can't afford it and tell people to have children because our national prosperity demands it.

We personally know someone who had children (as a teen) to collect benefits and who advocated this to other young women. This behaviour and attitude disgusts us. At the same time, we're facing a real crisis and we'll need to choose between huge immigration to fill gaps or locals to up the birthrate.

I don't believe lack of money is the reason for falling birth rates. Rich countries have lower birth rates and within each country, rich people have lower birth rates than poor people. Countries have tried giving monetary incentives for having kids. The impact has been zero to negligible.

I think a lot of people use "lack of money" as a plausible excuse. It's much easier to defend than "I just don't want kids".
