Ireland won’t contest Eurovision if Israel takes part

RTÉ has announced that it will not take part in the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest "if the participation of Israel goes ahead".

In a statement, the broadcaster said that "it is RTÉ's position that Ireland will not take part in the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest, if the participation of Israel goes ahead, and the final decision regarding Ireland’s participation will be made once the EBU’s decision is made".

….they have missed a trick there. The should have sent Kneecap for the wind up potential. Or got somebody to do a version of ‘Riverdance to the Sea’ perhaps?

I suppose after living under British rule and fighting for freedom after being prescribed a terrorist organisation, due to fighting for said freedom.

To see it happening on a much larger scale and defiantly public, has reminded Ireland of there past plight and wish to take action to highlight a present genocide taking place now.

Good riddance to Ireland.

Hopefully many others will depart and it will be the end of this ridiculous farce, which costs the British licence fee payer anywhere between £300k and £10m odd for a programme that hardly anyone watches.

Absolutely the correct move by Ireland who are leading the way in calling out the despicable Israeli genocide.

The support for Palestine here is overwhelming with only one or two pro Israel voices.

Also tv audience is approx 166 million. But hardly anybody watches it

It already had its day decades ago.

The music has nearly always been crap and recently the event serves only as a political football.

Can we withdraw if anyone else enters?....at least we won't have to suffer the humiliation of another bottom 6 finish.

It can still be watched on many platforms and the cash strapped BBC would save a few millions of licence payers hard earned bucks.
