A significant counter protest.

A small number of arrests.

A change in route.

For the numbers involved, a relatively peaceful event.

What do you think?

That's what we said when we saw it on the news.

I think that people have the right to peacefully protest and it appears that this happened

Absolutely!

I don't know the estimated numbers on either side, but it seems as though it was a more peaceful protest/counter protest than we have had in recent times.

Both the sides are aware that there is a lot of media coverage. The whole nation is watching them and they can't afford to screw up. Whatever the reason, a peaceful protest is a good thing.

A peaceful protest is a wonderful thing, when there are two opposing groups present.

I'm not sure that the media attention was a mitigating factor, but happy for that to be a topic of discussion.

There was an anti-immigrant march in Bristol yesterday too.

They were vastly outnumbered by non-racists.

Apparently there was one arrest.

Media attention wasn't probably the only one. Police presence too played a part. Overall, the protestors realised that a few people indulging in violence is good enough to give a bad branding for all the protestors. So I wouldn't be surprised if the protest organisers went far and above to ensure that there is no violence.

The police did indeed use legal powers to divert the protest to avoid any violence developing. That was probably a main factor, rather than media attention.

So, credit to Merseyside Police for responding to the situation and managing such a potentially volatile event.

No that’s a misunderstanding. The role of the police is to:

Spend taxpayers money on making their cars look gay while complaining about lack of resources.

Eating donuts while scanning the internet for their next tattoo and information on weight loss drugs

Arresting members of the public for saying stuff that doesn’t accord with the email they got from the Diversity team yesterday

Shaking their booty at the local ethnic carnival and hoping that nobody chases them with a machete as that’s way above their pay grade and isn’t safe

As a relative of a police officer who had to change into their uniform at work to avoid confrontation I know the above to be untrue.

Unfortunately posts such as the one above contributed to them needing to conceal their job from their neighbours.

To be fair the police are doing a pretty good job generally of concealing themselves from the population.

I can’t recall the last time I saw one waddling down the street.

Here’s some examples of their amazing crime solve rates (2023 England and Wales):

Overall: 5.7%

Sexual offences: 3.6%

Theft: 4%

Rape: 2.1%

Sure credit to police. But violent people would have resorted to violence irrespective of the diversion tactics. So all the factors would have played a part.

At a basic level, it is the duty of a constable ‘…to give adequate protection to all persons and to their property’ (Glasbrook Bros Ltd v Glamorgan) and ‘…to take all steps which appear to him necessary for keeping the peace, for preventing crime or for protecting property from criminal injury…duty to detect crime and to bring an offender to justice’ (Rice v Connelly [1966] 2 QB 414).

Ah... So they should better sit back and wait for crimes to happen when opposing groups with high tensions are in close proximity, so that they can then do their job of catching criminals

The problem is that the police don’t really enforce the law.

The chance of anyone actually being tried and convicted for any offence they commit is next to zero.

When they do try and convict someone. For example a violent rioting racist. The media goes bezerk and convinces people that we have some kind of two tier justice system.

"St George is the patron saint of England, and it matters not how much you try to bastardize him. That cross is ours, and the various council scumbags who remove it from our roadsides will give up before we give up putting more up,

This is England, like it or leave it!

St George is also the patron saint of Palestine "

And the flag is Italian (Genoese).

This seems to have been ignored. So I'll reply here to highlight it.

So the only people who are welcome are those who hate Brown people, except that once specific one with the red cross on the white background flag?

Makes sense. Where do I sign up to vote against my own interests?

He almost certainly didn't have this cross then.

The first association was when the English went to the Levant to kill the Muslims and to free Palestine... They took the red on white cross, called it the St George's cross, and went slaughtering non-Christians (all of them, but mostly Muslims, since that's what the Crusades were about).

Fair enough.

Still, those who don't like foreigners, seem to really like that one specific foreigner.

Back to the OP.

The Bristol protests were approx 35 anti-immigrant (protesting against asylum seekers, they don't seem to know the difference). And about 500 non-racists.

A good day for the city and for decency.

Thank you! It isn’t easy trying to argue in favour of patriotic English people in here. The liberals and the left will continually parrot their idiotic catchphrases, the favourite being the dreaded ‘ racist.’ They have to be ignored, as ever they are chatting shit. Like somehow we are anti British because we don’t like the fact that we are being swamped by immigrants. According to them it is unpatriotic to be against the dilution of the traditionally fair skin British people in favour of those from Africa and Asia. This is a terrible position to take, and ought to be be punishable by jail, or maybe death.

The time for change is here, and it won’t happen if we continue to elect the LibLabCon. What Great Britain needs is real change. We need real change, we need Reform UK.

Good to know, but I am asking what is the Italian connection.

I thought far right school didn't open till tomorrow for one of you to have a rebuttal.

But I will say I am impressed someone could find a rebuttal in such a short time.

"

The English went through Genoa (modern day Italy) to get to Jerusalem during the Crusades. Richard the Lionheart liked the look of the flag and decided to fight under it. Or perhaps using it kept him and his ships safe in that strategic port. It got somehow conflated with St George because the people using the flag liked tales of religious knights... And St George was a saint tho killed a dragon (with a lance), so fit the bill. Around the 14/15th century, it all got formalised as St George becoming patron saint of England, and the red on white cross (from Italy) becoming the flag.

"Absolute waste of Police time and resource.

...Keeping the peace so that people can express themselves freely? Isn't that exactly their job?

Nonsense...clowns and yobs wound up up by politicians.

Their jobs are to catch criminals...not heard nutcases with a grudge against life, a life they created themselves.

Who knows what your point is. Fantastic quotes though, however at a basic level a police person tied up with this nonsense isn't using their time to catch shop staff being assaulted, as an example.

The role of the police IS to keep the peace, as well as to deal with crime, since some people seem to not understand.

Wouldn't the resource be more useful to the community tackling crime then?

Just so you know, the Polices role is no implement the law. Keeping the peace as you call it has no role in the Police force.

The problem is that the police don’t really enforce the law.

The chance of anyone actually being tried and convicted for any offence they commit is next to zero."

You've read the gov.uk page on crime stats and the various reasons for non-disposals? It's not all about how well or not the police have investigated. Keep posting your imbalanced discussion points.

Thanks for your answer, so on passing through Genoa he saw a flag he liked or thought it would protect his boats.

Later this flag was adopted into an English version which we still use today, is generally what I read.

So I will take from that the flag was never British, it was adopted from another country, and placed into our society.

So the original poster was right in his assumptions that this flag of st George isn't English.

Either you didn't read my previous response to your copy paste or you choice was to ignore it."

I did read it. You have your interpretation of what you think the police "should" be doing. However, there are legalities in what the police can and can't do. Keeping the peace is one of those inconvenient legal things.

Very little in Christianity is English (outside of Anglican). It's predominantly Judean, Galilean, Turkish, otherwise levantine or Roman (and a few other areas for orthodox denominations).

St George was a Roman soldier from Turkey (Greek, at the time), whose mother was from Judea (recently renamed Syria Palestinia).
