Hamilton By Election

Results from the Hamilton By Election:

Labour 31.6%

SNP 29.4%

Reform 26.1%

Conservative 6%

Greens 2.6%

LibDems 2%

All parties down aside from Reform and Greens. Obviously major downward movement is SNP.

Can we glean anything from this result?

It's a good result for Labour, Sir Kier should be pleased.

A real breakthrough result for Reform and a disaster for the Tories. Taxi for Kemi I think.

This is hardline red-wall territory with the only other party historically to make any impact on that is the SNP.

The SNP were like Reform, sprung up because of an issue the other parties didn’t want to face up to, and of course became a major political force in Scotland and still are.

Slightly off topic for a moment but I always find it fascinating that Scottish, Welsh and Irish nationalism is supported by people from all walks of like and all sides of the political spectrum. But any form of English nationalism is treated as far right, bigotry, racist, uneducated, mob mentality.

As with all by elections every party will say publicly that this a good result. Labour and Reform can certainly say that with some conviction. The conservatives will be secretly licking their wounds because of the numbers, but they had no hope in hell of winning.

Reform must be pulling in voters from across the political spectrum.

The Reform vote would indicate that Scotland's political landscape could be in for a considerable shake up.

We find it staggering a Scottish person would vote for a bunch of grifting English nationalists. What has Farage ever done for Scotland?

He doesn't advocate for Scottish independence so I guess he resonates with the majority?

It would appear that you are out of touch with 26.1% of your fellow Scots.

A lot of false hope in this thread

The Tories have lost there base and they've jumped to reform.

At the end of the day Reform are just Tories pretending there not Tories.

Led by a man who's biggest ambition is to be the leader of the Tory party 😂😂😂😂😂😂. You couldn't make it up

Reform aren't surging here it's the SNP and labour who have lost some voters.

why anyone would think that the country that overwhelmingly voted against Brexit would all of a sudden back the main twat behind that disaster is beyond me.

Like I said false hope

Parts of Scotland have always been very socially conservative, and the Conservatives used to dominate there. Can't see why Reform couldn't win any of the seats currently held by Tories if they almost took one off the SNP ?

I'm not excited by Reforms 3rd place, however it seems to have rattled and excited some of you north of the border..

It also seems to have exposed a significant drop in confidence for the SNP, what happened? Swinney didn't even have Labour in the frame and called for voters to vote SNP to stop Reform. It looks very much like they voted Labour to stop Reform.

Reform's loss is Labours gain it would seem.

Only Reform and the greens gained ground at this election. For the rest it was about who lost the least. Could Reform get their first MSP next year. It seems a definite possibility if they can keep themselves from in fighting. Seems immigration is a hot topic in Scotland too
