Anyone see the car crash press call today.. where starmer spoke about farage 16 times ..then the press asked why he's so obsessed with a party who have 5 MPs and he commands a party of over 400.

With over three years till an election.. why is he so worried..

For transparency I have no political bias as I have lived as an expat for more than 15 years

Farage is doing a fine job of convincing workers with how words that he’s for them, whilst demonstrating via his voting record and last years ‘manifesto’ that he is anything but.

Good progress though that Starmer has moved on from blaming the Tories to blaming Reform.

Presumably he will find the right culprits in the end.

Perhaps it's because Reform tops the opinion polls and won 677 council seats, now controls 10 Councils, and 2 mayoral regions.

Farage has been spouting his usual uncosted garbage about tax breaks and welfare increases, claiming his government would makw savings by cutting private investment in net zero!

Starmer's masterstroke is linking Farage's promises to Liz Truss' failures. Here in the UK that will achieve significant cut-through with non-politically engaged voters as she is a national joke. Farage will follow...

Farage is somehow Teflon with a selection of the public. It doesn’t matter what he says, whether it’s uncosted, whether it’s a blatant lie. Some will lap it up because it suits them to do so.

But why are Starmer and Labour spending so much time on Farage?

Don’t they have a country to run?

And aren’t they doing such an amazing job that they shouldn’t need to worry about grifter Farage’s lies?

A few comments?

Didn’t he spend the day up north with the press pack and his entourage?

I guess things must be going so swimmingly that the country can run itself.

I appreciate it must have been very stressful for him leaving north London.

Hopefully he managed to share a traditional working class breakfast of french toast with artisanal berry jam, orange yoghurt and toasted buckwheat with the factory employees.

Indeed he does, 14 years of misrule can’t be undone in a year, or even 4/5.

So anyway, in response to my question, you agree that the PM doing a visit and some media work is quite normal?

Do I think it’s normal for a Prime Minister with a massive majority who is apparently doing a great job to take a day out to travel up north just to give a speech attacking a party with five MP’s?

No i’d say that’s pretty odd.

Another set of disastrous local election results for Labour last night. Vote down 35% in the Welsh one.

But sure. It’s all going to plan. Just not Labour’s plan.

For those that are interested, Starmer was in the North West visiting workers:

The Labour politician added: “As I’ve said many many times you can read a briefing in London or you can come and see the workforce and come and see the people with the real skills and understand what they’re doing and thank you for allowing me to do the second of those as I’ve got a really good sense of what you’re doing here, how you’re doing it and the incredible way you’re doing it, each of you contributing in your own way and I can see that pride.”

But of course, it’s easier to say he’s a north London elite who never ventures outside of his bubble.

They pretty much all follow a certain route in doing Politics, Philosophy and Economics where they're active at university with left wing or conservative politics then a slot as an assistant in an MP's office to learn the system then a safe seat..

I am interested. But how does visiting a glass manufacturing company and understanding its business help Starmer to make decisions about running the country? And if he was just there to talk to the staff and find out what that company is doing, why did he feel the need to talk about Farage?

I'll bet the company owner is mightily pissed off. To get some publicity he's had all that disruption and down-time, and the press can't even be bothered to report the name of the company that was being visited.

No idea, nor about Davey or the greens etc..

I thinks it's too easy and inaccurate to say that about labour just because they trigger you..?

There's similarities amongst all of them, some will have attended grammar as well as private and some even their local comprehensive..

Two cheeks same arse by and large and it's been that way for a while..

"For those that are interested, Starmer was in the North West visiting workers:

The Labour politician added: “As I’ve said many many times you can read a briefing in London or you can come and see the workforce and come and see the people with the real skills and understand what they’re doing and thank you for allowing me to do the second of those as I’ve got a really good sense of what you’re doing here, how you’re doing it and the incredible way you’re doing it, each of you contributing in your own way and I can see that pride.”

But of course, it’s easier to say he’s a north London elite who never ventures outside of his bubble.

That just sounds like the usual Fake Starmer sound bite written by someone else.

Everyone knows Starmer is fake. He is totally hopeless at hiding it. Nobody working class needs to go around telling everyone that “my father was a toolmaker” at every opportunity.

"

Said six months before the election I don't know what he stands for and in some ways I'm still not sure but he's not Boris nor is he truss..

What we needed was a bit of boring pragmatism after the mess of the Tories (we might need the same at the end of this governments tenure, whenever that is) because that's how it goes..

Still early to judge because there's a reason political terms aren't weekly with how fickle we are as an electorate..

I think Starmer is making a mistake trying to chase Reform UK supporters, if indeed that is what he's attempting to do.

YouGov polling puts Reform UK supporters as the least likely of all groups to switch to Labour (at just 4%). So it's pretty much a waste of time trying to appeal to them as they are a lost cause.

Starmer should just ignore Reform and concentrate on Labour's own agenda. If he tries to copy Farage all that will happen is that more people on the left will peel off to the LibDems, Greens, SNP etc.

Agree, there is little point now in wasting time upon Farage who thrives upon that..

Crack on with trying to sort out some of the mess the last lot left then go from there..

But the opposite is to do nothing, ignore advice from the likes of the President of the US and the European Commission, and blindly believe that nobody in their right mind would be stupid enough to vote for BREXIT.

Or, fast forward to today, to vote for Farage/Reform...

Starmer is not chasing Reform voters, he is trying to stop the exodus of labour voters who have lost faith and believe the cuts his government has made go against the principles of the party.

Exactly. The Red Wall trad Labour voters who won the 2019 election for Boris and the 2024 election for Starmer may well win the next one for Farage.

I'm pretty sure he's already lost anyone who thinks that Reform could magically increase spending while lowering taxes or who believes that an insurance scheme would transform the NHS.

The people he now needs to worry about losing are those who are put off by Reform's social and environmental messages. Yes, such people don't want Labour to pursue the same austerity measures as the Tories but they sure as hell will abandon Labour if it becomes more like Reform.

If Labour copy the Tory strategy of trying to be a watered-down version of Reform they will become just as irrelevant as the Tories.

"Anyone see the car crash press call today.. where starmer spoke about farage 16 times ..then the press asked why he's so obsessed with a party who have 5 MPs and he commands a party of over 400.

With over three years till an election.. why is he so worried..

For transparency I have no political bias as I have lived as an expat for more than 15 years "

Mr Starmer is picking a fight he will not win, Mr farage has and will have an arsenal during the term of this labour government of failure u turns and the out of touch rhetoric of associating fire and brimstone higher mortgages to a surname of a man.

I would love to see reform fuck up the Labour/Tory duopoly because I think they are predominantly self serving liars. What I suspect will happen is that BJ will ride to the rescue of the Tories and rob Reform of the votes they would've had and he'll con the electorate again

Maybe starmer got some flak after the local elections and feels given Reforms gains he needs to try and knock them down. However Farage has always seemed to thrive on such actions. It keeps Reform in the news which is very valuable to them

I think a lot of people would like to see an end to two party politics and a more representative Parliament, but Reform/Farage aren’t the answer.

Farage et al can do *a lot* of damage in 5 years.

Farage will follow..."

He can spout all the jncosted garbage he wants. It's what Labour did.

The Truss budget has no impact today. It was never implemented. People have seen their incomes destroyed in the last year following labours budgets. The job markets in turmoil. And more migrants are landing by boats. He would save £8bn a year just by operating the Rwanda scheme instead of housing in the UK.

Whether you like it or not. This speaks to the masses. The 20k personal allowance will bring a LOT of people up the financial ladder automatically.
