So … Canadian election today….. Australian election on Saturday

Anyone interested….

The Canadian election campaign has been fascinating.. the liberals are going to thank trump for his “51st state” comments and the specific Canadian tariffs….

Mark carney is going to make trumps life a nightmare

That’s a bit like saying Ipswich are going to make Liverpool’s life a nightmare.

Except that Ipswich and Liverpool aren't neighbours, and don't have a trade deal that one side has recently changed, and Liverpool's mayor hasn't announced that he'd like to take over Ipswich.

But other than that, good analogy.

I’m sure there is considerable economic interdependence, but the fact is that Canada is uniquely reliant on US trade.

I’m merely pointing out that the statement that Carney has the capacity to “make Trump’s life a nightmare” without any consequence for Canada is TDS hyperbole and wishful thinking.

Mr Carney is having the election asap before the people realise he is not the man he says he is.

Dr. Margaret Meyer, Mark Carney’s doctoral supervisor, is unequivocal: there is no evidence of plagiarism in his PhD thesis. She goes on, that the one text book was cited many times always fully referenced. Having completed the phd process, I very much doubt it, there is no way you would get plagiarism through the supervisory team, director of studies and external examiners

When he was in the UK he should have asked Rachel Reeves to do his CV. She would have got it to 4 PhDs at a minimum

Canada is still Canada as is Australia, no one's taking it over and they are still reasonably democratic. Except the Indigenous people of said countries still get a rough deal.

It would be nice to them get to the top of tree for a change to help restore some balance.

This goes for America too. It'll bring good karma to for them too.

Amazing how the Left nowadays are all superfans of the international bankers and Davos elite.

That’s quite some change.

They are about to become inconsequential, even with their own guy in number ten. They are running the country, into the ground. They are even worse than the Tories. So it is going to get worse before it gets better. Next election will be another landslide, this time for Reform UK. Itz coming!

Aussie Labour Party win election… stay in government with a larger majority….

I wonder if this is the start of a centre left “work around trump” so of coalition of the willing….

I would love some sort of uk/canada/Australia/New Zealand “Schengen“ type area

That is a great idea, call it the Commonwealth and run it from London.

lol.. was spitballing a bit there… but it would help out with tourism a lot! you could have a Canada uk LNG agreement for new holdings facilities (for onward travel into Europe, and blocks out the need for any from Russia, plus relieve US pressure

It’s interesting that mark carney has invited the king to open the Canadian House of Commons… I bet trump gets goaded into saying something about “51st state” again … and the UK in protest can whip away the state visit!!

CANZUK sounds good to be fair but will probably not get off the ground due to trading barriers that will be too high, like hormone treated beef. If they could drop the trade, and focus on free movement to start with, that would be great.

As I understand it, Australian parties don't quite map the same as ours in the UK, at least not in name terminology.

.

Their "Labor" party is not the same as our Labour party. I would say their "Labor" party is more akin to our Lib-Dems.

.

Their "Liberal" party does not map to our national Lib-Dems. Their "Liberal" party maps more to the UK Conservative party.

.

From what I can gather, many Australian voters seem to like a "Centrist" stance. In other words, a mix of socially-progressive values, and some business-orientated values, but neither too much of one or the other.

.

It's interesting that the Labor party have 2 factions within it that "moderate" the whole. They have a "Left-wing faction" and a "Right-wing faction".

.

I kind of like the idea of having an internal check-and-balance within your own party to self-moderate and prevent one "arm" dominating too much.
