Employees of Westminster council have been told to take a white privilege test to determine how white and privileged you may be.is this another form of racism against white people? I know some people believe you can't be racist towards white people which is wrong.

How many people did it take to think of this, authorise it and then publish it and then monitor it. And they get paid for this kind of stuff.

.

A flagship Labour council offered staff the option to take a “privilege test” in a move to combat unc0nscious bias against ethnic minorities.

Westminster Council workers are asked to take an online quiz which gives a privilege score based on answers to statements like “I am a white male” or “I have an illness or disability”, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The council said the questions appeared on a PowerPoint presentation from 2021 and do not form “any part of formal policy, training or recruitment process.”

A white person wouldn't experience racism in the same way a non white person would. I guess that gives white people an element of privilege.

As for anything else in life, I'd say that anyone, regardless of skin colour, can encounter white privilege.

Privilege can be more than what race you are. Wealth, class, gender social environment all contribute.

I doubt many unemployed poor white men in socially deprived housing estates feel privileged or superior.

couple, us we him her.

When someone spits from the top of their ivory tower they don't care who the spittle lands on and the colour of their skin.

We all have struggles in life and I'm not going to be guilted into feeling privileged because of the colour of my skin, I have worked fucking hard in my life and as much as I feel bad for those who have been discriminated against I can't change that anymore than I can change the colour of my skin.

Another example of people / groups thinking that the way to combat racism is to practice racism, just against a different group.

A test on general privilege I can put up with, if it needs to be themed it becomes divisive. For example the theme could be ableist privilege with a test that also asked questions about your skin colour to work out your final result.

No ordering involved. Just the OP throwing out dog whistle nonsense to get the oldies frothing at the mouth.

I took the test (it’s on the Express website).

Turns out I’m moderately privileged

Perhaps if I owed a new car or only shopped at M&S or Waitrose I might have got a higher score

Why start with racist insults, people are just joining in on the debate, oddly you then choose a racist insult.

That's the one I did. No way does it get to unc0nscious bias.

I think Charles Dickens used the phrase gammon tendency in Nicholas Nickleby to refer to a pompous jingoist.

It's racist? I'm happily behind the times. You can only insult a person if 1. It is known as an insult, and 2. If you accept it as an insult.

I got moderately privileged, which I can tell you is not correct as I’m exceedingly privileged. Some of those questions seem a little spurious … what counts as a new car mines second hand, but it still cost me £160k, I could shop at Waitrose or m and s, but I don’t. I don’t own any handbags as I’m a man. I’ve been stopped and searched and I see members of my race perceived poorly on tv. But I’m white so that upped it a bit.

Do keep up. Everybody knows that Charles Dickens was a famous Victorian ultra-woke anti-white racist social justice warrior.

"I think Charles Dickens used the phrase gammon tendency in Nicholas Nickleby to refer to a pompous jingoist."

Charles Dickens also described the 4 protagonists in The Pickwick Papers as "right gay and merry". Do you think the word 'gay' had the same meaning then as it does now?

Words have muliple layers of meaning and yes gay still has the meaning used by Dickens.

I have no recollection of gammon being a racist slur but perhaps someone expert in etymology can provide a source?

"White privilege" is specifically about white people not being likely to be victims of racial discrimination. That's it - it's not saying "all white people have it easy".

I googled it: urban dictionary states something about the flushing of white skin looks similar to gammon.

A mag article states something about Christians eating pork which is a wee bit silly considering Christians come in all colours and sizes, but you cannot buy them on amazon

Surely not being a victim of racism should be the base standard, not expressed as a privilege.

Yes, I found something similar but this doesn't sound any more racist to me than saying someone was blue in the face or crimson-faced and there was no reference either. What i'd want to see is a source where someone has unambiguously used gammon as a racist insult.

For argument's sake let's pretend that gammon doesn't actually mean a pompuous jingoist but is instead a racist insult against white people.

If this was the case then it would be impossible for a non-white person to be a gammon. Also all white people would be gammon. And a white person calling someone gammon would be a self-hater because they too have white skin.

But in reality the world gammon is never used like this. Non-white pompous jingoists exist and are called gammon. Not all white people are gammon and white people who use the word are not full of self-loathing.

To be succinct you say gammon as an insult is stupid, glad you agree
